NY chicken lover!!!!

I'm sorry to hear of your loss. We had a similar experience a few weeks ago with the passing of our 13yo black lab. We miss her very much.

Labs are such good dogs. Hugs to all of you.

Thanks everyone for your kindness. Yes, the house is too quiet. Our cat, abby, is looking and meowing for him. Breaks my heart. My girls are besides themselves with grief. Two deaths within a month is almost too much to bear. Heres hoping that we will not have any more.

I spent some energy and grief yesterday thoroughly cleaning and disinfecting the silkie coops and prepped them for winter. Both groups had to be nosey and stand around and in the doorway while I was doing it. Of course, when I was done, they all had to go inside and inspect everything. I guess I did a good job as I heard no complaints. Next projects are the big coops but they dont need the major, just some finishing for winter. Have to move the girls coop to its winter spot.

Hoping for sun today to dry things out again. Have a good day everyone.

So sorry to hear of your wonderful old friend passing. The grief is so intense for these animals we make part of our families. I think they are some of the best parts of our families, they add so much and ask so little. For kids who have not experienced much death yet, grief is even more difficult to deal with. At school I used to use a book called Lifetimes. It was a paperback with lovely sensitive illustrations and it really helps kids to see that death is part of living, and takes a lot of the fear and discomfort out of the equation. Of course, they still miss their friend, but it is better. I highly recommend this book.

very sorry to hear of the passing of part of your family. Almost a year ago we lost our Lab of 14 years...Bear. In this pic he was outside of my workshop waiting for me to give him a scrap of wood to chew on.

Pharm ~ Sorry to hear about the loss of your dog. Labs are great dogs, sounds like he lived a long, great life! We had a golden growing up that we had to put down at age 14 and it was hard. I have yet to experience something like that with my own family, I can't imagine the toll it takes on kids.

Anyone know of a good pumpkin patch near the Syracuse area I can take the kids to today? I have seen signs, but seeing this is my first year living here I'd rather ask those who have been here than to drive around aimlessly and not being happy with the ones I find...

Adorava--nice babies!

So once again I had to bury a loved one. This time it was our 13 year old chocolate lab named Boomer. He went downhill fast and we had to go to the clinic and put him down. Finally got him buried in his favorite spot. Boomer was a lot like the dog in Marley and Me...he had a huge heart, loved everyone including the chickens and would also get into everything. He made us laugh, aggravated, angry sometimes but he was, above all, my girls best friend and confidant. He will be missed.
Amy, I am so sorry for your loss. It's hard to lose a family pet.

Oh I'm sorry for the confusion. I typed it up unclearly. I was listing in order of things that have happened to me over the past few years that made it hard to work on training my horse. I'm not pregnant right now, just strongly considering a third. It's odd being a mom already, but I'm still a little scared of making the decision again. I have 2 girls right now 17 months apart. They keep me quite busy.

'Tis ok, got a nice homeschooling mommy (if you are on here, HI!) to take the chicks and to hopefully keep an eye on the little injured chick. :)

What though the radiance which was once so bright
Be now for ever taken from my sight,
Though nothing can bring back the hour
Of splendor in the grass, of glory in the flower;
We will grieve not, rather find
Strength in what remains behind;
