I'm a postal carrier... (and a former landlord

)

when I was a kid, our mailman, Stanley would come up the walk waving the envelope with the driver's license... or the fat envelope which meant acceptance to a particular college... it was nice.

I don't pay much attention to content while I'm sorting, but when I see neat magazines, I look for a blow-in card so I can get a subscription for myself...but I DO notice how people live... it's one thing to be living at or below the poverty line, it's quite another to be pigs. I know lots of people who may not have much, but they take great pride in what they do have, and keep it nice. I have one customer who is very creative, even if it's a little tacky... he wanted one of those garden balls, so he made one from an orange construction cone and a blue bowling ball.
and I would let a landlord know about a potential negative situation... when I was a landlord... I wish I had that info! I got burned so many times, but I always put a lien on the persons credit when I got my judgement (I never lost a case actually). all was very quiet on that front, and I didn't see any money til a couple of months ago, when one of my former knuckleheads tried to buy a car. he can NOT get a loan for anything without paying me back first. So, I finally got a little money back!

I would have to lose what I've typed to go back a page to see who it was who wrote about going "wheat free" diet-wise... great idea to try, there are lots of other grains that are very healthy and much easier for the human body to digest. I have been gluten free for 23 years, but I have Celiac disease, so that's par for the course... but if you have bloating, excess fatigue, headaches.... this list goes on and on and on... it's worth doing the elimination diet to see what the culprit is! wheat has always been difficult for every human to digest, over the past 10,000 years, humans have relied on it, and now, we are finding more and more folks who are intolerant of it. Good Luck! it can get a bit expensive, but if you want any advice on brands and stuff... I've got lots of knowledge

Ginny--sorry to hear about your craptastic day. I work in the health industry as well and I know your pain.

My cheeps all had a wonderful day of freeranging. Got everyone topped off so I can go to work early tomorrow. Hoping for another nice day.

Lynzii--have they gone broody?

I forget who mentioned going wheat free but I have been gluten free for a while and it does work. I feel much better. All this talk about mailmen makes me think about what mine might know about me! lol

mail carriers do know way too much sometimes... i overheard someone on line at the market say his name, and I rattled off his address... I freaked him out... then I told him I deliver his mail... honestly, I don't know that many people, but if someone tells me their name, I can tell them where they live.

Quote: Speaking of FreeRanging, I had quite the exciting day with my chickens. When I was done with work at 11 I had noticed DH had let the silkies out this morning instead of the orps. I had started my chores with the animals, making sure the rabbits had food/hay/water, then ,moved on to the Silkie's coop, fed and watered them. Meanwhile I looked around and didn't see them at all. They've been sticking pretty close to their coop since we started letting them out this past weekend. I went around the yard and noticed them coming up the driveway behind my car and this is why I couldn't see them. So I got back to my chores, heading into the shed to grab some more feed and planned on opening the side door to the orp's coop and dropping some feed into their bowl. Of course as I do this as carefully as poccibly without letting them out, the biggest one, my Roo goes flying out of the coop! So now I'm freaking out he's going to attack my silkies who were right dead smack in the middle of my yard, I dropped the door (letting now the other two out, who also haven't been nice to the silkies ever since separating them) go running over to my silkies, try to grab them up before the roo got to them, that was nearly impossible. (I wonder my mail carrier would have thought of me now had he seen me chasing chickens around my yard!

) I finally get them, turn around and see my roo heading over to the silkie coop with the other two behind him like an army of orpingtons! So later I start raking up some leaves into a pile for my kids - now it's just me, our dachshund and the three orps out at this point, my poor doxie in the middle of the yard with his back turned to the chickens, I turn around and there goes my roo after my dog! He literally jumped up and pounced on my dog! My dog yelps out, runs away, and I went after my roo. I'm telling ya, he better watch his back while I'm out there! What a day with those chickens!

I disagree with part of what you said. "Busted windows and broken faucets" are damage, not normal wear and tear. Unless the window does not work correctly and slams down and breaks, it is the tenents responsiblity to fix it. And I cannot imagine how you would break a faucet. A leaky faucet is not the tenents responsiblity but actually breaking one? That's all on the tenent, assuming it was in proper working order when the tenent took residency.

Dirt, dust, fingerprints,chipped paint, scuff marks on the floor and carpet...that is "normal wear and tear"....broken ANYTHING (that was functioning properly at the beginning) is not normal wear and tear and can be subtracted from the security deposit. Beleive me. My father has had it hold up in a court of law. Once the place was so filthy the judge gave him reasonable cleaning costs on top of damages.

I'm sorry but things wear out and most places I've rented do not have the best in fixtures. Right now we have three tiles that pulled away from the wall in the bathroom. We've replaced three windows last summer. Wood rots and paint peels. I can't tell you the number of times I had to fix a leaky faucet and more than once. Landlords sometimes expect more from tenents than they should. Having owned and rented I know that things break.

I guess we are talking 2 different things. Wearing out and breaking are 2 entirely different circumstances. Wearing out and rot are facts of life. Things breaking are not normal wear. That is abuse. a leaky faucet is wear. A broken faucet is abuse
