NY chicken lover!!!!

Another update on the rented house.  (Dh and I will not set foot in the house.  Our new renter is taking care of the mess, thank God!)  They were cleaning heat vents today and discovered MAGGOTS in the heat ducts.  How the he** do you get MAGGOTS in the heat ducts?

Ugh!!! Those things make me wanna vomit! Soooo glad your new renter has agreed to take care of everything before moving in! You really lucked out with that deal!

there was a story a few years back... don't know where it came from, but the couple was splitting up. he had a new girlfriend and his soon to be ex wife wanted the house, but the new girlfriend wanted it... so Wife... took raw shrimp, and stuck them inside the curtain rods. eventually, the smell drove them out, they said the ex wife could have the house after all, and they packed up everything, including the curtains, and the rods.

I doubt it's a true story... it's funny tho' even if it's fake... but that would bring lots of maggots, maybe the old tenant was a food hoarder and kept a sammy hidden in the vent?

Cass, a miniature cow??? I never knew there was such a thing. Really?

My peeps have been (knock on wood) consistantly laying 12 to 14 eggs per day. I gave them the wormer yesterday and it has a 14 day withdrawal period. Don't you know, they produced 15 eggs today? A record. Sigh... It broke my heart to throw away those eggs.
We needed the space in our garage, so I moved half a leftover bale of straw into the coop in a corner. They decided it was the premier place to lay eggs and made a nest on the top of the straw. They laid TEN eggs in the one nest today. LOL Guess I'll have to add a box in that spot.

Well this might be a clue. Did they have kids? We have friends who's son got caught dumping his uneaten hot dog down the register. Still another , our neighbors rented the house across the street from us and when the single mother of two moved, they had to replace the blower to the furnace. It seem her 10yr old son was peeing down the register.

I wish you well and hope you've got good tenants and you both treat each other well.

Could also be dead mice or other critters. I replaced a furnace one year when I was in California and it was FULL of dead mice. Ewwww.

DH and I thought about renting our california house out instead of selling it, but after everyone told me their 'renter horror stories' we opted to sell it lol.

Over the years I've thought it would be nice to have homes to rent, but that thought is now tarnished by reality, thank you all for saving me from one of my fantasies. Guess I always envisioned responsible tenants like all of us have been.

When we left CT, we were trying to sell our house at the worst possible time. I actually stayed in CT for 8 months while my husband was working in NY, with the house while it was on market. My realtor would ask over and over, "You wouldn't consider renting it out?" I was like no way. Especially with the two of us only being at the age of 25 at the time, we were not ready to take on that responsibility! It would probably take me a year just to find someone who I trusted enough to take care of it like the way we did. I told her I'd rather foreclose than to have to deal with something like that. We ended up having to Short Sale it. We've been renting for the past 5 years and when I hear all these horror stories I just can't believe that people live like that. I mean, it may not be your own house, but it's your own HOME. Then again, some people out there just don't care to live in their own filth!

Believe me it was urine. The neighbor showed me the blower which he removed.

The truth is many people haven't been taught how to be clean. The cycle has been set and needs to be broken. Then again too, many are just to lazy and need to be made to clean up.

The friends we just helped needed to be told. I told the hus. that the house was a blessing from God and it was his responsibility to maintain it. I worked with a kid who was making good money but the town sent him a letter to clean up his yard. From what he told me there was garbage that needed to be dealt with.

Folks sometimes need to be told and there is no polite way to do it.

Oh and the hen is back on the stoop. I'm tempted to open the door and see if she comes in.

Ever since you mentioned this the other day, my three orps have been hanging out on our side porch...DH is sooo PO'ed! Because needless to say, not only are they hanging out, they're leaving their little presents EVERYWHERE! If it were still 80 degrees out I would just take the hose to it and spray it off, but today it dropped to 42! AND it was raining this morning. I'll sweep what I can for now and spray it down this weekend. I told my son to chase them off the deck every time he hears them knocking at the door. LOL Now I'm starting to get ticked that I have to watch my step and hop over it every time I go out there.

just shot a large cat after the chickens. Either a large bobcat or a Canadian Lynx. Through the scope only...hard to tell when you only see it for 3 seconds. It jumped in the swamp to die. I'm not going to look forr it to identify it.
