NY chicken lover!!!!

Just got done putting waterers in the coops. I thought about doing the nipple waterers, but since I couldn't find them in a store I brought the regular chicken waterers at TS last night. I was recycling big apple juice containers I buy for my kids and filling those with water, no matter how I cut a hole in the they would still manage to get them dirty and filled with poop. The new ones I hanging in their coops and up off the ground so I'm hoping they do a little better with these.

Someone had a really nice pen for sale in CL the other day that used for their rabbits. They wanted $40 for everything they were selling - the pen, a rabbut hutch, rabbit cage and other items. I would have paid $40 for the pen alone! He got back to me saying he had someone looking at it yesterday afternoon and they must have decided to take it because he got back to me saying it was gone. That pen would have perfect for letting the silkies out in while the bigger chickens were out. the walls were tall enough and it was just nicely put together. Owell

I'm out your way Henicillin, out in Averill Park. Actually closing on a house in East Nassau on Friday!
Anyway our local hannaford wasnt crazy at all either, there were a few people buying cases of water but mostly older people. I was shocked at the number of cases laying around actually...same with batteries etc.
I have to go out to the East Greenbush Walmart in a bit for a few things...I'm a little afraid to go. It could be worth a laugh however. I will let you know how that goes

Awesome! *waves to my new neighbor*

I'd love to know how the East Greenbush Wally World has fared. It has to be pretty well stripped of anything and everything.

The Jersey Giant/Sussex cross (the Cockerel Formerly Known As Hopalong) I want to keep as my second-in-command rooster is shaping up to be a good guy. He calls to the ladies and feeds them nicely, asks politely for their favors and doesn't force his attentions on them, and treats the smaller birds very well. He also has the sense to stand down when Papa Rooster Captain Morgan asserts his authority. It doesn't hurt his case that at only six months old he's already large, very beautiful, and has a deep, lovely crow that's actually deeper than the Captain's crow. He was out in the run this evening with some of the ladies and with the ducks, and was busily rounding everyone up and trying to shepherd them into the coop. The pullets listen to him, although the grown hens don't, and of course the duckehs do whatever they please. At least he's trying!

I just realized I never considered a power outage. We have a sump and if it goes out the basement will flood for sure. We don't have a generator. Our power has never gone out in a rain storm. Though I don't know that it will come that far in land.

Looks like I will be staying home tomorrow. Little girl has been fighting a runny/stuffy nose for 2-3 weeks, took her to the doc's on Wednesday. We went with the antibiotic option (amoxicillan), only because it has gone on so long. Now today she is running a fever. Just gave her another dose of ibuprofen to bring it down, was 101.5. Hubby suggest I should ask Henicillan. I was impressed he remembered your name!

Now she is back to bouncing around like the hyper 2-year-old she is.
We got the coop turned around in the horse stall, so the ramp isn't hanging out the barn door. Think the broody attempt was broken when everything got shifted around today, Luna was out ranging with everyone else. They have created another spot to squeeze under the chicken wire, so they freely leave the run whenever they feel like. Hubby braced up the back/North barn doors, of course now I couldn't open them if I wanted to. Horses will stay in for the next 3-4 days. Chickens will do as they please. Have everyone's water buckets full, with plenty of extra buckets and muck buckets full of water in the barn. Won't run out of water, have 3 tanks under the eaves, but who wants to be trekking out and climbing through the fence (with the back doors blocked off) to haul water in the rain/wind. Also got a 15 gallon barrel of water in the garage for toilet flushing. We been without water a couple times this summer, we got this down. Our biggest worry is the wind. It is normally windy here anyways on a normal day, I worry when we get high wind warnings. We have 5 huge pine trees in front of the house, but that is south, so they would end in the road away from the house. The 2 silver maples on the east of the house are the bigger concern. Didn't get the soup made this weekend, guess I'll have a chance tomorrow, with a 'helper' of course.

You can give her ibuprofen and acetaminophen at the same time (they're metabolized differently, so it's fine to use them together) if her fever doesn't respond to the ibuprofen alone. After having what could be an upper respiratory infection that long, a course of amoxicillin can't hurt and might help. Oh, and it's too funny that he remembered my name!

We have an ancient beast (1970s vintage) of a Monkey Ward generator that wasn't putting out enough voltage to run our well pump (which is 220). I had to come to the rescue with Google, as you can find pretty much anything on Google. He had to adjust the idle, and now it's fine. He bought the thing for a hundred bucks or so at a swap meet last year, and it may prove to be well worth it!
