NY chicken lover!!!!

I have to work tomorrow no matter what too... although, with Irene, we didn't deliver for 2 days. that was so strange. I'd never not worked, at least attempted... but Gilboa was cut off, like an island...
it's very windy, 50 mph gusts and sounds like it's going to get worse... steady rain, getting muddy, but the enclosure is just perfect. dry, a little noisy from the wind and rain and birds, but on the last check, everyone is roosting quietly, it's dry and warm inside despite the front wall having no covering. I parked my big ole Tahoe in front as a wind break, it's working. the banty and her 2 bodyguards are roosting inside the enclosure instead of the coop, doesn't matter to me, they seem quite content. phew, puttin' my feet up and having some cocoa and watching the storm tracker...

We have a good generator, so for power we are ok.. but not sure all our coops won't blow away!=) Two are bulletproof but one I'm not so sure about. :) Very windy here, was fun driving home from work today in the smart car! We've been told to come to work tomorrow no matter what!
You might want to take the jeep tomorrow. Hate to have to get out the bird net to catch you as you fly by in your smart car.

We have been given no direction regarding tomorrow. NONE. Now you would think with 98% of your staff on the road 100% of the time they would give us some indication of what they expect from us, wouldn't you? I *plan* to go to work, but you know what they say about plans. "If you want to make God laugh, make plans"

Yah I plan on taking the jeep tomorrow. Problem with the jeep is the leaky roof. :p My boss actually called the 'head office' but because we are medical (note, NOT an urgent care or an ER) we stay open even if we have no power. We were told we'll just sit there and tell the patients that we have no power and to go home. :p

The power was flickering as I left today lol.

I am sure we'll be fine out this way, but it would be cool to get a day off. =)

All the birds are in the barn, I went down to check the feed, water, and eggs. 1 egg, so maybe they are getting back in order. I am hoping so, I have 1 chick right now, pretty little things...but we need more. I am on poop duty while the chickens are in the barn, it has to stay clean and stink free while they are in there. It's amazing, alot of poop. It was quite comical, I am out in the barn with my chicken boots on scooping up poop with a kitty litter scooper. Ahhh, the joy of chickens. It was the most relaxing 10 minutes I'd had all day. I will take pictures for you guys tomorrow so you can see that set up. It is primitive and wonderful. :)

It's 8:15, and so far, so good. We've had lots and lots of rain and some good gusts of wind. Just got the call that school is cancelled tomorrow and since I work at the school, NO WORK!!! Wahoo!
Chickens were not happy mid-afternoon to be locked up. Especially with their new "friends" on the other side of the coop. The two flocks seem to care less about eachother. One of my roos from the first flock has tried to talk to the new pullets already. Too cute. I'm just worried that the young roos will not get along once I introduce them. There's one black australorp that seems a bit more aggressive. I will be introducing them all once the storm lets up.
Oh, someone was asking about water nipples. I just bought a dozen from qcsupply.com. They were $1 and change (maybe $1.24? but don't quote me) plus flat priority mail shipping. I was pleased. They came quickly, though I haven't used them yet. They seem to be good quality.
Stay safe everyone!
