NY chicken lover!!!!

Morning all! The cheeps are staring wistfully through their windows wishing they could be outside. I have left them locked up for the storm. No rain yet but the wind has picked up pretty good. The sky is a weird color, a pinkish grey. Dh stayed home since there is a state of emergency in effect and he has to cross a major bridge to get to work. It would probably be closed by the time he got out. I have to go to work as my company never closes, even in a state of emergency. They might miss a dollar. Anyways, be safe and I hope that damage is minimal or none for you folks. If the power goes, so does the internet and I will not be able to get on to see how everyone is.

You can give her ibuprofen and acetaminophen at the same time (they're metabolized differently, so it's fine to use them together) if her fever doesn't respond to the ibuprofen alone. After having what could be an upper respiratory infection that long, a course of amoxicillin can't hurt and might help. Oh, and it's too funny that he remembered my name!

We have been alternating the ibuprofen and acetaminophen as needed. She was a little warm still at bedtime, but held off on the tylenol in case she needed it middle of the night more. This morning she is a little warm, but not enough to need meds. Right now she is bouncing on the couch behind me partially choking me in the process. Kept her home today and I'm working on the soup. Her appetite has really been off since starting the antibiotics, normally they make her ravenous. But she has been drinking, so lots of water and juice.
Seen that 2 of the roos failed to make bedtime last night, not sure where they stayed but they were outside before I opened the coop and none too happy. The coop is much darker with the barn closed up and turned away from the west facing door. Well, off to finish the soup, then call the chickers over to the back porch where I will toss them the carrot and celery scraps. I'm liking them free-ranging.

Awesome!  *waves to my new neighbor*  :frow

I'd love to know how the East Greenbush Wally World has fared.  It has to be pretty well stripped of anything and everything.  :lau

Ha Walmart wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. There were a few nutty people but nothing awful.

I took the y off work today and luckily my afternoon classes are cancelled. The monsters are going a little crazy being locked up but I'm a little hesitant to let them out. They have really good shelter under the coop when it's raining but I get nervous..

Stay safe everyone!!!

I peeked in and saw some uncharacteristing pecking going on, so i dedided to open up the door.. it's windy,,, but not so bad as I thought. Hope I don't regret it.. as there is still some timetill tlhey go to bed. Silly Mr. Roo out in the uncovered part of the run... feathers flying.. as if he is enjoying it!

I'm having some doubts about the durability of the portable run. it's a chain link dog kennel, 8 x 8 x 4.5, that is skirted and wrapped in hardware cloth, then has vinyl roofing and same vinyl wrapped entirely around the sides. it is ventilated with about 2 inches of space around all 4 walls along the top. it's next to the enclosure and has "decent" wind protection, full protection from wind coming from the west. But... with the storm...
I am thinking about putting the birds all together in the enclosure, I have a makeshift divider to keep the roos separated. the vinyl cover is lashed down from end to end lengthwise and crisscrossed, a corner flap can break but it won't lift or fly away.

oh wow, i didn't even hit submit... it's done, the makeshift divider is in place, the banty and her two bodyguards are snug in 1/3 of the enclosure with a roost, food and water... they have sole access to the apple crate coop with 2 more roosts. it's super windy up here, lost a couple of birch branches already, only drizzling, but the wind sounds like a freight train in the woods behind my land

We have an ancient beast (1970s vintage) of a Monkey Ward generator that wasn't putting out enough voltage to run our well pump (which is 220). I had to come to the rescue with Google, as you can find pretty much anything on Google. He had to adjust the idle, and now it's fine. He bought the thing for a hundred bucks or so at a swap meet last year, and it may prove to be well worth it!

Well if we don't have any problems with this storm I'll be sure to at least get a small one. I do know there is a pump that can be put in that doesn't use electricity and I will look into that too.

We have a good generator, so for power we are ok.. but not sure all our coops won't blow away!=) Two are bulletproof but one I'm not so sure about. :) Very windy here, was fun driving home from work today in the smart car! We've been told to come to work tomorrow no matter what!
