NY chicken lover!!!!

I still expect to pay him and if I can get him to do it on a regular basis I'd use him. Still I want to know how and whether I can do it. If I'm going to hatch chicks I ain't giving the grown ones away. I'd hate to dispatch chicks at an age when they can be sexed. I raise Delawares and they can't be auto sexed. Plus I'm working on type and weight so I have to grow them out til I'm satisfied. Heritage birds need working on not just preservation.

Hubby and I might be able to take a few "X-tra" roo's for processing in the spring?? Are you looking to give them away for that?? Have you tried it yourself? We did a few excess hens this year and they were soooo yummy! I have 6 layers right now but I live in a neighborhood so the roo's would have to be dispatched quickly!! Thanks

I have no problem giving away roo chicks but to raise them til they have weight and then give them away is just a waste of feed and time. I hope to have a "roo" coop built in the spring to grow out my Dels. Some I have are clearly heavy birds as is my Nick. The Georgia roo and hen are not really up to type and I wonder about the line. Hatchery Dels are not pure IMO.
I grew up in Liverpool, as did DW. We both graduated from LHS. I used to have chickens where we lived, they were allowed then. So much has changed. Now if you'd like roo chicks I can give or get you these as myself and friend are hatching now for spring layers. I have some Del/EE crosses that should be nice either way. I hope it won't be to long before I can get the ones I have processed. Now if you and your hus. want to get into processing there surely is no end of folks who would pay to have it done. You could make some extra money doing it.

I just remembered they're going to tear down Galeville Grocery. When I was a kid they were the only ones who would cash the five dollar money orders my father would send for our birthday. They were the only ones opened on Sundays then and holidays. It's so sad for us to see so much of our childhood gone and now this.

I wish I had the set-up for it!!!! We got the taste of fresh chicken and now I want more!! I don't want to screw up a good thing I have going with the neighbors by messing with too manny birds. We live in Galeville!! On Pleasantview Dr. I'm definatley into the heavy breeds so when we get to a place where we can have more I'll keep you in mind!! I wish we met sooner, I was looking for local birds last spring, but couldn't find any! Nice chatting, are you having a drop in egg production? I have heard sooo much about it but I'm still getting 6 for 6, hope my girls don't burn themselves out!!

We lived on Buckley Rd. near the Candle company. DW grew up on Gale ave. It was all farm land in the 50's. I hate the changes. Went to Liverpool schools all my life. Elementary was called Salt City Elem. then. now the town hall.

Now we do have a house for sale down the road on three acres. You didn't or I've fogotten what breed you have. I breed Dels and they are my best. Still laying after a year and I expect they are two since I got them grown. Hatchery girls not so much. I do like an assortment running around the yard. Perhaps they will pick up in the spring. I get enough for the house and to sell. About a doz a day. Temp in the coop makes a difference too.

Take care and have a safe and drama free Christmas.

Interesting....sometimes when it gets hot in the summer we can smell cows, or farm!!! I have 3 Amber links, 1RIR 1NH and 1 Brown leghorn. We are looking to move out the Lysander, Cato area in the next 4 years with a minimum of 5 acres. * sigh* can't wait!!!

I gave my Wheatens to a guy who just moved to Skaneatlas. I know he was getting eggs, but don't know if any hatched...

I can find out.

Hope everyone had a good christmas. It comes and goes fast.

Had an opossum get in our coop on christmas eve. It was still there when we got home from my parents. DH got it with the pitch fork we left by the coop, but it still got one of my juveniles. She was a mix breed, but she was a snuggly chicken. I wonder why it couldn't have gotten the rooster I didn't want.

We started up the incubator yesterday which I'm excited about. We have a wide assortment in it. I got a mixed bunch from Karen and Rudy Brouilllette, there were quite a few bantam ones (partridge wyandotte and black cornish), black leghorn, blue andalusion, GLW, silkie and even a duck. And my husband got me for christmas some BLRW from Sue, thank you Sue your birds are beautiful. Hopefully I will have a successful hatch. I only have 2 open spaces left in the ncubator.

Well I hope everyone had and has a great day!
