NY chicken lover!!!!

Well Pearl is safe and sound in the basement! DH got home late last night and was bringing me home a large box from work so I could keep her, the nest box, food and water in it. I never got back out there to move her - I am terrified to go out into my backyard in the pitch black darkness - flash light or no flash light! LOL Just got done moving her and she didn't move a single muscle. Went up the coop, opened the nest box, placed a dish towel over her and brought the box and her inside. Placed her in her new "pen" like nothing even happened! Well have to see how she is tomorrow morning. I plan on checking on her a couple of times tonight to make sure nothing upset her. Mission 2 - completed!

Rancher- Agways pellets ? There is a Agway store around here ? Is it being sold under the Agway Brand ? Agway went bankrupt ...
Any updates on the Rat / mouse / squirrel trap - athon ?
Speaking of Squirrels
I was giving my chickens bread crumb treats ..they love bread ..I havent tried boss yet ..Around the corner came a squirrel ..
It saw me ...Stopped ..looked at the chickens...Chickens ignored it ,,,aahhhBread ...it looked for bread too ...then they looked up ...One saw it started chasing it to peck it ..
It ran away a little bit ..Another one saw it ..started chasing it ..it decided IM GETTING OUT of HERE ..Yaaa! one for the Chickens

All I know is that CM has "Egg Producer pellets that are 21% protein.

I too go the Purina and I think my girls have picked up laying since using it but I can't be sure yet. We shall see.

I've got more mice but I have to warn you. Those easy to set plastic traps are not instant kill. I bought two and the mice dragged them off. I found one not far from where I placed it but the other is somewhere in the crawl space in the attic.

I've caught two mice with the rat trap and a few more with just the wire mice traps. I've been dumping the mice in a pile in the back yard just outside the door and something has been coming and taking them.

I had set the rat trap just on the stoop outside the door but caught a mouse in it. I was expecting something bigger. I will set it again and see what I get.

The Agway out here seems to be doing fine. I didn't even know they had a 21% layer tho. How much more is it than the 16? I think I pay around 15 for the 16% - they deliver free for $200 order so I get a bunch at a time.

I think I'll try making a flock block,. although if it's not as dense as the storebought kind might not be as cost effective as I think. My 40 bird coop took just under two weeks to finish theirs. The 14 bird coop still has about 2/3 left.

I'll let you know. I had to order two bags since no one has been buying it. It may be a dollar more but the protein is worth it for heritage breeds.

If you have Hybrids I wouldn't bother.

I haven't been on much lately. There were over 200 unread posts when I got on here. I can't read them all, I did scim them. Sorry for those that have had losses and hard times. Congrats to those who have new peeps and beautiful birds (that would be everyone right?) Welcome aboard to the newbies.

Country boy---are you selling hatching eggs in the spring? if so what would you be asking for them? (I like your birds)

I've been back and forth to the hospital all week. The doctors have told us that the chemo is not working for my brother and they have nothing else to try. His CEA levels improved with the treatment but the cancer is still growing. From this my brother is still going to do another round of chemo. He felt he was able to breath and move around better after a treatment. We've also had to start talking and arranging of affairs. It's hard to feel like you're being torn apart inside and keeping a strong front because the rest of your family needs you to be. I'm thankful for you guys to come vent to. I still pray everyday. Miracles do happen, I see that when I look at my girls.

Morning all! Been working like a dog so my cheeps think I have abandoned them! Just a quick fill of food and water in the am then off till nighttime. Dh has been on lockup duties. Miserable day today but I am hoping that it stops raining this pm so I can let the layers out for a little freeranging after I get home. Everyone is getting a little stir crazy. Time for some cabbage and suet. Have a good day all.

Tab ~ I think of you every time I visit this thread, your strength is admirable. you need an outlet, probably several... for all the emotions that you endure. what better place to clear your head than right here?

rainy and foggy here this morning, chicks are thriving and very active... the other shoe will fall today when my honey comes up for the weekend... no hiding the box of loudly peeping fluff balls... off to work soon... have a great day everyone!
