NY chicken lover!!!!

For Rancher or any other crafty people out there, Tina in Southern NY posted this. I don't know how to knit or crochet, maybe it is time I learn.
Time to search my closet to find something green & white to wear. Good day all!

Tina , we all have to start somewhere. I'm a lefty and I learned. I'm sure there are plenty of Youtube vids out there to teach you. Just start by making small squares of each of the Single Crochet and Double Crochet stitches the rest is easy.

Those hats are just to intense for me.

Lynzi - Perhaps it's time to make a Scarecrow or two. I could send you some of my clothes. If the appearance didn't keep preds away the smell would.

We old people just don't like to buy new clothes. Not to mention they're coming back into style.

I can't wait for the Platform shoes to come back in. I'd probably fall on my butt and break a hip though, so I have plans to sell them on E-bay.

Sorry to hear about the hawk. I'll bet the missing girl is hiding, and if you go out quietly and call her she may be brave enough to come to you. To be seasonal, you could make festive faux snow men and ladies. The kids would enjoy it...like you probably have time at this time of year for such a project...

Sorry to hear about more hawk attacks. I've had my chickens free ranging all summer and never had a single hawk attack. After the leaves fell I started having a hawk come by on a daily bases. Luckily I've been able to run outside before he actually dives for a chicken. Now I only let them free range for a few hours a day when I am either outside or near a window. My chickens give the alert call as soon as they see a hawk and crows also make an alert call when they are harassing a hawk. Of corse most prey never see the hawk until it's too late. But between the crows, squirrels, other birds and my chickens I seem to get a feeling that a hawk is near even when I can't see him. The weird thing is that I could be looking right at him and not see him until he starts to fly away. Once I see him I yell and clap my hands and scare him off. If I'm not home my chickens stay inside.

Thanks Everyone,
My lavender orp seems to be doing alright. Just scraped up a bit around her face, but like I said no damage to eyes at least. I went out around 11:45 ad called for my son's orpington and she came out from under the porch. So got her back into the coop and they are both safe and sound now. Phew!

Pearl is still sitting. I thought I upset her yesterday by all that cleaning I did to her cage. She ended up jumping out of the box, squawking away, walking around the laundry room like she was really upset over something. I immediately thought, does she KNOW I removed that egg from her nest that was empty?!? So I quickly grabbed it, placed it back in the nest, placed her back in her box and I swear she counted them (Go ahead laugh at me) and settled right down. So weird, she's been fine since. Too funny tho....

By the way, anybody who is going to the congress: I am bringing two polish hens (one gold spangled and one white) and would like to trade for a production layer.... may seem like a demotion but I have a plan..... thanks!

We are thinking of adding a pair of geese in the spring. Anyone have geese? What kind, how do you like them? I can get China hatching eggs from a friend to put under a broody duck....but not sure I want them.
