NY chicken lover!!!!

Nah - I'm in Delmar at the moment. I think I'm a little too hillbilly for the humorless scold. I really should lay it on thick and discuss whacking my birds, just to see the reaction, because I'm evil.

Oh, you work in "Delmartian-land" Sorry.....

If anyone has a Silkie hen they'd be willing to part with I'll be looking for one in the next few weeks to go along with my hen and roo. I'd like another color other than white. I'd be willing to drive up to an hour or so away.

Also, as you all may remember Pearl, my white hen hatched 3 chicks lay December and they looked Partridge in color when they hatched but feathered out to be this darker color, with some "speckled" white in their wings and chests. The roo is a lavender split blue. If I continue to hatch eggs from this pair is that the end result as far as color goes? Will I always get this same result or is there a chance another color may pop up from this combo?

If you can put the chick by itself in a warm and dark place and let it sleep it might be fine. Make sure it has food and water.

Some times the stress of being poked and prodded by well meaning people can do them in. They are babies after all and need to sleep. At least for the first few days.

I have no doubt the folks at CM are not aware and pester them to death. Literally.

Too, make sure the temp they are in is not to warm. 95 to start is not always correct. If they are staying away from the light it is too hot.

You can have mine ! I dont remember seeing any white caps . These eagle appear to be all brown ..
But when they come close to our house ..I am too busy yelling at them to notice ...A Crazy Chicken Lady I AM !

Gramma,

are you sure they are not turkey vultures?

Immature bald eagles will be dark brown, but will be mottled with more white feathers throughout as they mature.

TOB

Bald eagles will remain solid brown until about 4 years old when they reach sexual maturity, then they get their iconic colors.

Until 4 and even 5 years of age, immatures will remain mostly dark brown, but they will have random patches of white feathers.
