This morning before heading to the small animal auction in Adams, the husband and I went to the barn to grab the dog box just in case we bought something and we found 17 white eggs inside it! One or two of the leghorns have been sneeky. It wouldn't bother me had she been sitting on them but what's the point of hiding them from me? I'm gonna Have have to keep an eye on those girls. Anyway the auction was mostly roosters and rabbits. They all went really cheap! Some people paid one dollar per rabbit! I scored a trio of call ducks for $30. They are so cute.
this is why I don't go to auctions. Just frustrates me and not worth the gas to get there. Even a decent hen doesn't go for what she's worth. That's why I would rather trade for stuff. The berry plants I just got are worth more than a dollar. Heck the horse manure was worth the trade cuz I didn't have to shovel it. I figure a bag is worth $5 to me.
Now folks keep in mind I do crochet and knit so if you got yarn laying around I can use it. Old hay or straw is ok for the garden. Not sure I'll get berries this year so I can pick them in exchange for chickens. Apples in the fall even the spotted ones can be used for Jelly or sauce. If your done with your coop and you've got left over chicken wire or hardware cloth I can use it. The hardware cloth I use to wrap my roses so the voles and mice don't destroy them.
Oh and I'm expecting a call for an interview on Monday too.
I agree with you on the auctions. Been dropping my eggs off at schuylerville and you don't wanna know how little I get for em. I think I got 50 cents for a rooster there once.. But sometimes ya gotta do what you gotta do - I'm drowning in eggs and already gave some to the food bank, so off to auction they go.
Good luck on the job!! I am working on getting into college now to finish my BSN - that's gonna be fun! (LOL).. And pricey.. I'm still at my 'new' job so that's helping to pay for it..

I agree as well on the auctions. I go every so often to trade with people at the door or sell birds I don't have anything else to do with but usually I don't get much. I did get $50 for a pair of Silkies though once but that was only once.I agree with you on the auctions. Been dropping my eggs off at schuylerville and you don't wanna know how little I get for em. Orp Thug Life, the scourge of the barnyard.Well now I don't really know, but I have had this experience last time. I had some roosters out there and they jumped a couple of the little girls and I had to put them down as they broke bones on the poor things. These were Orpington roosters. Mario and Luigi. Not nice boys. I swear I heard Rap music coming from their side of the coop one night.
