NY chicken lover!!!!

There is an auction every Wednesday in Springville on rt39. That's where I get my veggies and flowers in the spring. They also auction animals in the afternoon. Great place and lots to see

whats the name of the auction place and where specifically is it, i want to check this out.

The only name I know it by is the Springville auction. It's on rt 39 near the fire hall. They have parking at the fireball and its a short walk from the fireball to the auction. Big red barn on the hill. Can't miss it :)

I have to say I like the taste of my rir. I know Ginny eats her buckeyes. Meat birds are eating, pooping machines. Personally I wont raise them. A good dual purpose bird, one who lays and is table food, is a good investment as you can breed and raise what you need. Stony does this all the time as well. Barred rocks are also supposed to be good eating but I havent eaten any of mine, yet.
I do eat my buckeyes. I like to have self sustaining food and I also like the idea of heritage fowl. They do take longer to grow than meaties you get from a hatchery. It takes about 5 or 6 months to raise a buckeye to eating weight. You don't have as much breast but I get great thighs and drums. Because they live longer the texture is different than 8 week old meaties.

I heard RIR's taste great as well!

(I think all homegrown taste better!!)

Evening all. Crazy day at work today. I think it was national freak day cause they were all in trying to get all their stuff early. You would think my grey hair would alert them to the fact that I wasnt born yesterday.

Came home to the tater tots playing in the playpen. I call the babies tater tots. Dh put them outside today while he was working cutting down more trees. Its for my silkie area.

I think he just wants them moved from view in front of the house but thats okay cause I have plans for all that space he is clearing! Moving the two coops there and hopefully a grow out house and a nice large fenced in run for all of them! The "real" chickens already have their house and run in a nice spot.

The terrorists have dug craters by our foundation out back with their dustbathing so we are going to have to get some dirt and fill it in. They have a huge one under their coop and dh want to get some sand and fill it in. It certainly explains the sawing and hammering I was hearing under there. They were building ladders so they could get in and out of the dust hole.

Rancher---sounds like you had gangsters from the hood at your house. I have rednecks, who are just as bad. Oh--good luck on the interview.

Hoping tomorrow is nice as I must get out and clean up and pick up the yard and plant my blueberry bush. I like the idea of a swap shop. Eggs for plants, manure for chicks, etc. We should make a point of doing stuff like that since we are all like minded people. I am sure we all have stuff we dont need that we could swap for stuff we do need. Sorry rancher---you arent getting my yarn. I am hooked on crocheting (no pun intended) so I will keep mine.

Ta for now.
Funny you mentioned crazies! I thought they all were in Lenox yesterday!! I now some say that the full moon doesn't effect us, but man, I think I have to disagree. There was a full moon last night or was it the night before?.......

Good Morning we have young girls and only three are old enough to lay and they do Unfortunately two of the three are silkies so we don't see too many eggs from them but when we do it's great, and of course of Barred Rock is pretty consistant at 4 - 5 eggs a week.
