NY chicken lover!!!!

nice range of chicks there nutty. I'm also thinking of a bator. I some how sold my wife on letting me spend up to 200 on one or to make one. but i dont think i want to make one after building my coop lol. Was looking at a Hova Bator Low Voltage Genesis Egg Incubator 1588 online but still up in the air. They seem to be sold out everywhere so i'm guessing its an ok bator. Still researching them more before i buy one though.

So my new rooster is crowing wife says it woke our daughter up this morning at 6 am. I dont think it did because our room is right next to her room on front side of house and i could barely hear the crowing when i woke up later in day. I think she's just looking for an out for not haveing a roo. But i say he stays just learn to sleep through it lol.

If you are serious about hatching, look for a deal on Ebay for an RCOM-20 bator, they actually allow you to set the humidity, the best competitor to them only monitors the humidity...big diffrence. They have increased my hatch % enormously, expensive but worth every penny.

You have alot of Roosters & hens ..do you let them all free range at the same time ? ? or not at all ?
Reason I ask is this ...My two white birds they are approx 2 months 3 weeks old ..
I suspect they are a boy & girl ..if I wanted them to stay a pair ..would they have to have their own coop & run ?
I hate to separate them as they have been together all their life ...or eat him if it is a roo .

Will look for one I did just win a Brinsea Incubator so am going to give that a try with the kids as soon as it gets here I will be looking for some fertile eggs to give it a try. Will probably give that one to the boys and buy me a bigger better one. I used the same story to hubby that I could just sell the chicks he of course believed me. LOL Oh I see a few more coops in the future

Your set out to get me killed by my wife aint ya? I talked to her some and we desided I may have to build one and maybe add an auto turner. We don't want to get stuck with a bunch of ee's and I don't have plans yet on doing any pure breeds. But sorta looking at barred rocks if I do.

Morning all. Slept with the fan on all night just so I could stay cool. The humidity is really bothering me. I was reading up on honey and cinnamon as helpful for all kinds of things. Thinking of trying the tea, which is really just hot water, 2 tablespoons of honey and a teaspoon of cinnamon. Its supposed to help arthritis.

Up early to treat the divas before releasing them. Mean Marge was in the coop early roosting, which is not like her. I pulled her down and gave her a good look over. Found a few mites on her. I think the heat was getting to her as well. Anyways, I hit everyone with ivermectin this morning and powdered all butts and tail feathers. I only saw evidence on Mean Marge and Gladys. I think they might have picked them up from freeranging. I just did a big cleanout on their coop and commited chemical warfare with permethryn spray on it to prevent any outbreaks. I had one this fall if you remember and really sprayed the crap out of the coop then, inside and out and every little opening. Almost killed me but I didnt want to have to deal with them again. The kicker is I have the tots in the coop now as well so I powdered their little butts lightly and mixed some powder in the litter as a preventative. Better safe than sorry. Looks like I have to catch Betty and treat her for vent gleet. She is the only one who gets it and has to be treated for it. Not sure why.

Looks like rain today. Off to the pharm soon for more fun and games. Have a good day!

Pharm,Hopefully at least you slept! I was up at 1:30 bringing my horses home in the thunderstorm. Then because I got soaked I froze, I bundled up and went back to bed, but then I cooked and had to get up to take everything off. Tell me again Why I have animals.

I have not been able to post and don't even know if this will go through. Computers are acting weird here.

Heni, just wanted to ask what kind of fencing you have you duckehs out in(is that an oxymoron?out in?) How moveable is it?

edited to say, I can not post a quote...AAUUGGHH!!

Morning Everyone,
We had quite the thunderstorm here last night! At least we got the rain we needed. I'm hoping to finish up the duck house today. Not sure if I want to paint it or just leave it and stain it. I need paint so I guess it all depends on whether or not I want to take a ride to the store for paint. The chickens were having a field day midway thru the storm last night when it calmed down a bit, feasting on all the worms. The rain didn't seem to bother them at all. Should have taken a picture of them all soaked and silly looking .

Hope everyone enjoys their day!!!

Yesterday I got a good video of the tornado cloud that was trying hard to form over DeWitt.

Also, should I continue incubating a single fertile egg since the others either have already quit or should I abandon the hatch? What would some more experienced hatchers do?

I hope the weather is good this weekend, I really need to get the platforms for my coop finished so I can start on the outdoor run.
