fantastic Cass. Most duck eggs are 28 days. So set the duck eggs for 7 then add chicken eggs. Scovies are LONG to hatch. Are the 2 eggs peeping the scovie eggs?3 chicks hatched. woohoo. I moved the co-broody to the floor and put her 2 eggs down there. They were PEEPING!!!! I hope they hatch after I moved them. I put the 3 hatched chicks under her with her 2 eggs. She pecked them at first, but then settled down. I will go back and check on them before my bedtime. If I had known (researched) how long duck eggs take I would have held off on setting the chicken eggs for a few days, they were fresh enough to do that. Oh well. Live and learn.
TOB - my husband keeps having meeting with the owner (who he'll be working directly for in this new position) and he really wants us to move to a more centralized location. But not in any rush. By next August we'll have to start looking. I told my husband I will do everything in my power to bring my "farm" with us! Lol we're going to look into buying our next property since we'll be there a while.
Funny of the night: I was outside tonight roasting marshmallows with the kids and as always the three bigger girls come running over to see what ever food it is we have available. Well my son was trying to take his marshmallow off the stick and up jumped one of the BR's to grab it. So of course it fell to the ground and the three hens are going at it like crazy. I have never seen three hens try to get marshmallow off their beaks before! We were laughing so hard. My kids were dying! It was quite the scene!
I could just imagine what the hens looked like with the Marshmallow LOL! Sorry about your rabbit maybe it will come back before she ahs the babies.I lost one of my rabbits today. :-( the door to her hutch wasn't the greatest and I had been wanting to alter it for about a week now but my husband kept leaving his drill at work. Well I finally got a chance to redo it today and when I went up to the hutch to get measurements she was gone! She managed to squeeze herself thru a 2.5 - 3inch gap in the door! And she's pregnant! She's due to have babies any day now. She never came today, took off into the woods and that was the last I saw her. So upset!
My hatch is over.. 20 cute little chicks! I think two are from my leghorn eggs, the rest are from CB. Just put one chick down (I HATE doing that) because s/he was born with no eyes and a really messed up navel. Oddly enough it was my only sticky chick and managed to beat his or her way out of the wrong end of the egg. I didn't even help it. I hate hate hate doing that but if I can even get that chicken to grow up poor thing would probably not do well with some of the others. /sniff. I know others have done well with blind chickens, but with school/work etc I would not have given it the care it deserves. On the positive, the others are awesome and CUTE!!
I'll put up a pic in a bit. You can tell which ones are from my eggs - big ol yellow chicks.![]()
I got my bunny back!!! The kids came in yelling she had bounced back into the yard and my husband ran out there and got her! She's still too fat too so she mustn't have delivered her kits yet. Back home safe and sound!![]()
Jayin---my condolences on your loss. It is okay to be upset and second guess yourself. It shows you care about your critters. I think that animals make us better humans. Take solace in the fact that you gave her a good life while she was here. We understand your loss.
Lynzi==glad your runaway mommy came back home.
Finally is cooling off and the cheeps had a nice evening out with chicken daddy. I had to work. However, when I came home Little Man and his women were out and they came running for me as soon as I opened the car door. Who knew chickens could recognize their mommys car? My silkies just love me.
Enjoy the cooler weather all!
miquwid-- I'm due Oct 1st
The show went well in Syracuse. My girls ran themselves to exhaustion with their friend.
One of my banties hatched out a baby and it was out of the nest with momma still sitting on the rest of the eggs. One of the other mommas was taking care of it with her much older chick, but when I checked at night time she was on roost with older chick. New baby was left by itself on ground and I noticed it had a wound on its back. Now I have a baby banty by itself in the house and I need a friend for it. My other eggs aren't hatching fast enough for it to have a friend. I don't want it to be alone for days. I've been snuggling with it so it would not be upset. I've called it peanut.
