I got my bunny back!!! The kids came in yelling she had bounced back into the yard and my husband ran out there and got her! She's still too fat too so she mustn't have delivered her kits yet. Back home safe and sound!

So sorry to know you are feeling so sad and grieving. I agree that you cannot beat yourself up. You're relatively new to the world of chickens and like anything else, you gain experience over time. It sounds like Pecky, and all your birds, have a very happy and secure home with you. So many animals do not get that kind of life, so you should give yourself some credit. And it was not a mistake to get attached to your birds -- on the contrary, love and affection for our animals is a wonderful thing! Take care...

maybe your rabbit has started preparing a den for her babies? Maybe take a look around for some freshly dug areas? If this was already suggested, I apologize. I have been skimming posts, but am so far behind I may have missed something.

The sick little chick does not sound as though it would only have a blindness challenge, but other significant health issues. I can't imagine how hard that is to do, but I think you did the right thing. Sorry...

We found her TOB, she came out of the woods this evening while my kids and husband were outside and they caught her. She's still pregnant so I don't have to worry about her kits being alone out in the woods. I'm so happy he was able to catch her.

For anyone who needs a little cheering, here are a couple of my girls to give you a smile.


Chumley hanging with my son. She is no frills about being handled. She is a great poster child for the friendliness of the Orpington breed. Couldn't resist an Orp. I know I'll pay the price with broodiness later on, haha.

One of our bigger girls, "Miss Pringles", the Delaware. She finally ate from my hand today...the last one to cave! She caught a bug today in the pen and tried valiantly to keep it for herself, but the Columbian Rocks tag-teamed her and wore her down. She finally ran to the Maran (boss lady) and just dropped it at her feet as if to say, "Here, you have it! Anyone but THEM!" One of the Rocks made off with the bug, anyway. Poor Pringles!

Breella ~ Cute birds!!

Well I tried moving Stella today to that she's by herself and away from the other hens IF and when these eggs hatch. I moved her to the grow out pen and thats when she decided to get up to get food and water and free range a little bit. So I let her out and put her eggs back in the nest box because I knew thats the spot she'd go back to. Came home from picking up my son and she was back in there sitting on them. Tried moving her again with the eggs she kept looking out the window like she wanted out and was not sitting on them in there. So I brought her back over to her nest box, placed her in there and gave her the eggs back one by one and she tucked them back under her. I'm going to take a break from trying to move her and move her tomorrow night. I just hope she stays in that pen and doesn't look to go back in that other coop. It's tough because if I let the other girls to out to free range, and she wants out as well, I have to leave that coop door open so she can get back in there when she wants to. But if I leave it open the other girls will be curious and wander in there because I have food placed in there for her. I don't know if I should wait to see if she wants out in the morning and wait for her to go back in before I let the other girls out? Or if I should just her out and hope she returns to the grow out pen and not the other coop.

I would do one of two things (and I have done both on different occasions) Lock her into the new point you want her to be in and don't let her out for 3 - 5 days, like you would do if you were starting with a new flock or moving a flock to a new coop location. Or I would move her about Day 19 (lock down). Since the eggs will be rocking and cheeping by that time she will not abandon them.
