NY chicken lover!!!!

I do. They got their chicks from Mt. Healthy. Don't ask me how I know.

Right. I asked the Cortland TSC and they told me Mt Healthy also. I like to know so I can check out breeds and descriptions online before purchase. If you check Mt Healthy's website, you can compare. The in-store ad always said it could be a mix of red breed pullets, like RIR, sex link, ect.

Keep waiting! Don't lose hope! Float test them tomorrow but give them a few more days!

Question: I have had my oldest chickens 12 weeks this week. They are molting SO BAD. Does this mean I can expect eggs in about a month? Or sooner? The oldest are about 13 weeks old, the younger group are about 10 weeks old.
22 weeks is a common age for the first egg. Molting before that time is just loss of juvenile feathers and adult feathers growing in.

Do you guys think I have a mature red sex link pullet or some crazy roo? about 11-12 weeks old. I wish they were all as easy to sex as BrahMutt. BrahMutt is so manly and the same age.
I'll look at mine which are same age but for most part looks same as mine. I'll compare all my wattles to yours and comb. I have 6 that look like it.

Red Sex Link Pullet. Looks just like mine and I bought them at Tractor Supply earlier this spring. (Sorry, for butting in) I tried to upload a pic for you, to show they look alike but it still won't let me. sue

so I have an ides and may need someone with some computer codeing or programing advice. I think it would help the byc community a lot. If interested let me know. I would like to start with the Ny community first.

thanks

Just candled eggs the ones are day 15 and are looking good and the others I candeled are at day 12 they were looking good also. 3 more days until Lockdown for the ones and it is going to drive me nuts when they go on lockdown I will be checking continuously. The bators will candle them next weekend hubby is anxious to know about the duck eggs told him patience it is too early.

My teeny bop chicks went out for the first time this weekend they loved it. I build them a little run with an A-Frame shelter to get out of the sun and they loved it. I was very impressed that I did it all with left over materials and I did it by myself 10 days post shoulder replacement surgery. The materials I used were 2 pallets that wood pellets were delivered on last year, 2 pieces of 2 x 4's that were left over from one of the coop builds, and the roof was metal left over from the barn we had built last year. Now if the rain will stop so they can go out again. I made sure to start giving them grit now that they are getting more than just chick feed.

Tomorrow is therapy am thinking it will probably be the last time I have to go arm is doing pretty good am surprised how easy this was I thought I was going to be laid up for quite a while . I do have to have the other arm done but school starts back up for me the beginning of July for 5 weeks then I get almost a month off again so may get it done then will see.

While I am out and about tomorrow got to get baby chicks some food and have to do some running around and order the last of stuff for one of the boys graduation party in a couple weeks. It is hard to believe that number 3 will be graduating this Saturday and going off to college in the fall. That will leave me with 3 more boys at home youngest will graduate in 5 years.

Hope everyone is staying dry supposed to have a chance of an afternoon thunderstorm but here's hoping it is at least dry up until then.

Has anyone ever tried this with eggs that have gone past the 22-23 hatch date?

Was thinking of trying it tomorrow if still nothing comes from these eggs. Still no pips, no zips, no cheeps or peeps.

I'm thinking they're done.

I was told to wait 28 days ..That was today . We opened them all to see what they looked like .
All dead . one looked fully developed ...all the rest were all smaller sized or mostly yolk .
I would like to try again ...It was kind of heart breaking that none of them made it .

How old, typically, do chicks/ducks become when the hen decides they are on their own? I have absolutely no luck at all with broody hens. It has been their first year but every single one has killed any chick that hatches. I only found 2 in time. Hopefully next year and I'll have a better set up so they aren't up so high.
anywhere from 3.5 weeks to 12 weeks. Onlyone group of mine that hatched this year are on their own now. The rest are stll with their mothers

Good morning all, I was able to do a little bit of gardening last night, hopefully more today. I def gotta now the lawn! And hopefully get some homework done.

Nutty Good luck with the eggs, I'm glad your doing very well after your surgery. Did I hear that right three boys graduated and three more to go? Wow well congrats on getting them off to college!

Gramma Sorry about the eggs, hopefully your next batch will work out.
