Yeah, I don't mind waiting at all...that's about the time frame I had in mind...maybe Rancher will wanna go too?! That'd be fun, we could all grab a cup of coffee and talk chicken while they're being....

I would definitely give you a Del roo for your barbeque..that I'm invited to right? Uh-huh-nod your head yes missy! LOL

I know, I've said I wanted to butcher also, but my thinking is this-1) I work 6 days a week...when am I going to have the time? Plus I've got horses! Hello, horses in the warm weather=NO TIME! 2) By the time I buy everything to process these guys, its gonna take years before I see any profit from it, monetarily anyway. 3)What in creation am I gonna do with all the guts/blood/feathers??? Its not like deer hunting where you leave that stuff in the woods and a butcher is dealing with the rest. Have I convinced myself yet??!! LOL Its just easier to do it this way...and at least I'm helping out a local.

A hairstylist in Manlius.....yeah, you ain't talking chicken with no one in that neighborhood!! LOL LMAO!!! Connections are always a good thing, and ugh, if I wasn't working Saturdays at the Post Office.....I'd sooo be there! I can't give up that money though...gots to feed da babies!

That'd be cool! It doesn't take long to get them done. I think I'll just have them do the cornish. Of course, you're invited, Silly! Accepting donations of heritage roosters too! Mr "I Don't Have Time" said we should have some people over to process a few days before the BBQ, so they're all done by hand. Love him to death, but I really don't understand him at all!! LOL

Hey my DH is a pro at this and so is my In laws....processing of the chickens that is!? The water temp has to be just right and the feathers come right out....I may be wrong....Sue....anythoughts?!

Yes, if the water temp is at 150, & you dunk about 10 times, the feahters practicallly fall out by themselves. It wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. I'mgoing to be doihng 10 or so in the near future, the Freedom rangers are getting ready,,,,I just need some nice weather...by the way, we did 5 chickens & 2 turkeys, and there really wasn't much to throw away, it all went into a garbage bag & out with the trash.

Went to tsc today, met MJ there, she isn't on this list, anyways, not many chicks and nothing I wanted, some buff orps, cxs, red layers they called them, austrolorps and white leghorns...

OMG! You two are worse than me!!!

It takes 2 silkies to dust a room......heheheheheehhe. Speaking of which -------> I have cuckoo silkie eggs coming!!
tongue2.gif

I had to stay away from TSC today. I did have to buy feed, but I prefer Countrymax. BTW... I blamed Dawn on some of my chicken purchases last year!

Rancher... It should theoretically be in 7 weeks to get the chickens processed. We'll also be bringing our 2nd Dorking rooster. He's nice & big. John may want to go to watch & learn. Trish & I will be hiding! We'll have the BBQ after we open the pool & pressure wash the patio furniture. It's a great space for a party.

Hahahaha! OMG....I want some cuckoo's!!! Holy crap, Tim is NEVER gonna speak to me again. But don't they look like a cuckoo marans as far as patterning? Hmm...gonna have to look those up!

Thanks for telling him Renee, I neglected to do that in my last post. Ugh....cannot wait for warmer weather, I am having a very hard time remembering what a pool and a grill look like..not to mention what a warm summer day feels like...lol!

Sue, your blrw babies are growing beautifully and thanks again for letting them go! I've a sneaking suspicion I've a roo and a pullet..yay for me!!! LOL

Speaking of Maryjo, she is coming over tomorrow to grab a br and a white crested black polish. Maryjo has a ton more room than I do, so she should be right at home over there!

Karen, for 2.00 a bird, wrapped up nice and tight in a freezer bag....I say let them deal with the mess! LOL Its just worth it to me right now....who knows...I may change my mind...again!

What's this COUPLE crap? I've got at least a half doz or more RIR's in the incu. I don't know how many and I didn't want to breed them. Plus the minimum is six at TSC and I don't want four! I figure three each. Plus I have to got there to get some feed today, right now, immediately. I'm low on layer. Almost out. Betsy will kill me if I buy chicks but if I say you gave them to me for a one year friendeversery then you can tell Mark I gave your three for our friendervererys and we'll be safe.

Anyhow gotta wait til Betsy comes home from work and I gotta unload the piece of plywood from HD and 2x2's and have SIL take the grit out from last week, but I'm going today to get feed today.

I didn't mean silkies though they are junk to me. At least til mine hatch. If they do. Then everyone else's is junk. Especially if they look as good as Claudias. Have to ask, How many silkies does it take to dust a room?

Yeah, I only want a couple!! LOL Just kidding!! Yeah, I think Mark will go for the whole friendversary thing....just like Betsy will!
lol.png
Seriously, though I'm all for a couple...I mean 3 GC's. I was actually gonna ask you if you wanted to possibly split an order..but I wasn't sure how you felt about GC's to begin with.

If you want to give me the RIR's, I will definitely take them...
wink.png

Listen here....your hoop house that you want to build. You know I will help you build it...or rather my Mark will be willing to lend a hand I'm sure. They're a very simple build, your doofus (we need to stop calling him that, or rather you....
tongue.png
) can handle it. I actually think I would be able to manage it myself..just the bending of the cattle panels require two people or at the very least a stationary object in a convenient place...Anyhow, simple, simple....I promise!

So now, what are you doing with plywood and 2x2's..I'm almost afraid to ask...building a brooder are we???

I'm seriously gonna have to restrain myself...I really want to raise a half dozen cornish rocks...but where oh where would I put them!!!

Renee, I agree CM is cheaper, except they grower is only 14% unless you get the medicated and I only use that for a short time not til they switch to layer.

Yes I saw the barred silkies and they are cool. It's just to wet here for silkies.

Trylin, I'm going to need two, got that two hoop coops and I've decided where I'm going to put them. Of course first I have to replace the stockade fencing that is falling down on the dog side of the yard. Not to big a deal cuz the posts are ok. And I can get Jesse to dig any I need.

As for the ply wood I just buy it cuz you never know. I just get the pieces and then decide. I want to put in some exterior nesting boxes. The 2x2's are for support under the metal panels on the roof. Brooder oh yeah I need to build two brooders. Big ones. The plastic bins are breaking apart as plastic does.

I may sell my Gym thing and that will mean more room in the back OMG! Another pool set up.

Won't make TSC I don't think. Hope they have some GC's left. I had a friend who was selling them for 10 each. They were this years and laying. He downsided from 100 to 60 I think. Oh well gotta go.

Tootles

Rancher Trish call me tomorrow.

And as I suspected.... John now wants to do it himself! hahahahaha They say it's a WOMAN"S perogative to change her mind ---- sheesh!!!!!! I'm still going to plan on going to have the cornish done. He can start with the Dorking if he wants to & if he decides he wants to do it here, then we will.

Cuckoo silkies look different because of the furry feathers... looks so fuzzy that it almost makes you dizzy. That must be part of the mind control!

MJ bought some of my black orps last month. Is she going to the auction?

Sue -- are you just dropping off or staying at the auction?

Speaking of craigslist.. I'm going large fowl only for safety's sake so I'm sadly going to sell my little mille fleur d'uccle pullets (4) - will take pictures soon but they are very cute and extremely friendly. Would prefer they go as a group if possible. They were born October 24th and just started squatting for me.
smile.png
If you are in my area and might be interested let me know ASAP or they will end up on the evil CL.
tongue.png
I *Did* manage to sell those OE chicks on CL.. yay!
smile.png

On another note.. I used to love winter (and actually I still do)... but.. I think this winter is the first one I am getting a bit tired of. Now if it could just stay spring until next winter I'd be happy. No torrential rains and 100+ temps this year please!

Rancher -- I use their gamebird starter for my chicks -- it's 26 percent & you can mix it with lower protein if you want. I also buy 21 percent egg producer pellets there for the rest of the flock for the winter months.

It is not too wet here for silkies! They LOVE to play in the mud and they love to get baths. I think they like the rain because it's the only time they can actually see!

I'll have to check out these hoop houses. Sounds like a really good idea! I'd love to build something myself.
