NY chicken lover!!!!

[quote How old are they? If still chick  can't fly, I'll take them! Drake? what breed is he?

They're ten weeks. They can't really fly (or at least I haven't seen them do it), but they ARE fully feathered. I would happily clip their wings for you. They don't need a light, and they were raised by a momma chicken, so they're very chicken friendly. The drake is a Khaki Campbell. A gorgeous, gorgeous boy, just getting his speculum feathers. Must be a baby from this year. Someone dumped him at my workshop in a tiny plastic tub with no food, water, or bedding and the back of his head torn wide open about three weeks ago. He was also skin and bone, but very friendly. The wierdest thing. I've been calling him Douglas.

LYNZI,

I think you are a lot like me in that we try to be nice to everyone and you end up in uncomfortable situations like what you're going through. People can read way too much into someone just acting friendly.

I think everyone's advice to block the guy is spot on. Nip it in the bud.

Hopefully you're out of that position for good within a week or so. I know you're counting the minutes.

By the way, the new duckies are sweet! Handsome!
I definitely blocked him this morning. It's just the fact that A.) these people are taking over our jobs, they are work people not friends outside of work people and B.) I don't KNOW you! What makes you think I'm going to accept a friend request from a stranger because thats really what you are to me...I don't get it?!? I can see if MAYBE I've been speaking/working with you for years and we've grown friendly with each other thru work to the point where I would feel comfortable enough to add you on FB because I feel like I know you well enough. But I just start talking work with you two days ago! Geez! Creepy!

This years porkers-
Nice looking pigs!
Lynzi the ducks look happy. The picture doesn't do them justice though. I went through the rest of them last night and don't think I hatched a drake. Ordinarily that wouldn't be bad but I would like to cross one back to Bonnie in hopes of a couple chocolates.

Chris
I'll get some better pictures of them when I start to let them out to free range. I'll take some pictures with my good camera instead of my phone.

I really hate how crappy the videos come out on YouTube from my phone. They don't look like that on my phone, why do they come out all distorted and pixely on youtube?

Rancher I'm really sorry to hear about your BRs! Good idea though keeping the others cooped up until you can figure it out - hopefully!

Evening all! County Boy---just had the tastiest porkchops ever! My mom got some freerange fresh pork from her neighbor and brought some down to us. Oh boy were the chops I cooked tonight so good! Dh cooked some of the bacon this morning and I ate a piece tonight and that was good. I cant eat store bought bacon as I am allergic to the nitrates and sulfates in it but this natural raised stuff was good and no reaction. I may have to start buying all natural, freerange meats from now on.

We have another egg eater. Dh found an eaten one and an open one in the nest box. He is going to watch tomorrow to see if he can catch the wench doing it. We shall eat her as well.

Lynzi--definately block both of them!

Pyxis--good luck finding homes for everyone.

Cheeps are out terrorizing the yard. They enjoyed the porkchop bones and fat and the corn cobs tonight. One of the hens was hiding behind the shed with her part of a bone eating it in peace. Raptors. I dont understand why my daughter finds it disturbing to see a chicken run by the window with a bone hanging out of its beak. Seems natural enough to me.

Alright, off to do more stuff before bed.

I wish I had pork left over from last years pigs. I can't wait for October. 10 weeks to go for these guys and they will have a new home in freezer camp. I like raising pigs.

I'm sure that's one animal my husband (knowing his job) wouldn't object to me raising if I ever had an interest in doing so! LOL

Found this little gem while I was feeding the big girls. Took a few minutes to figure out what it was, besides an egg :) I'm pretty good at knowing who lays what egg but this was a surprise. My first guinea egg :-D They just turned 5 months today. I actually had to Google guinea eggs just to make sure.

Wow, that's a tiny egg for such a not so tiny bird... Is that their average size for eggs or is that just a new layer egg size? Are guineas tiny as chicks?

Yeah the chick's we're tiny. Probably silkie size, but I couldn't believe how fast they grew. I'm not sure if they get bigger, maybe someone else does. The egg is smaller than a silkie egg too.

This years porkers-

Very nice.

Since I've been back to work, I am dragging.

I did do up some Strawberry Rhubarb jam today. After cleaning the coop and dragging cement blocks out of the ditch to use to stack the new hay in the Delaware run. The former owners for some reason thought it would be smart to toss crap into the ditch that runs along our property. Now I'm left to drag the stuff out so water will drain. Anyhow the new hay will be up off the floor of the run and the mini chicks can shelter in there.

I'll be moving some hens out to the BR coop since there is room. Still no sign of the hens but I did put a padlock on the door. I have no idea where they went or if something/someone came and took them.

I got a nasty bite from the daughter BR who while in with the EE's is broody and mean as a hornet. I wear gloves to take her eggs but she managed to get my arm. Today I just took the whole nest bucket out and dumped her. Cleaned the coop. I thought she'd break but nnnnnooooooooooooooooooooooo!!! She was back there tonight.

Question : Does anyone here use Ancestry.com??

Gotta run,

Rancher
