I live right down the street from Rancher & am as bad a chicken enabler as he is! I'm also a show quality, pure-breed chicken snob. I have black & lav Ameraucanas & Orpingtons, red Dorkings & BBS & white Silkies.

It has been way too quiet on this thread lately! We keep falling off page 1! Where is everyone?

Yes..and you live behind me a ways...lol! Hope everyone is doing good..thank goodness the weather is hopefully breaking?! Need to build coops..NOW! Way too many birds in the garage including the ee's and ameraucana's I've hatched...test hatch so I am not sure what's what..but the more I look at them..the more I can tell who's pure or not....cute as heck though! If anyone is interested here's the link:

Thought I would let the NY'ers have first crack at em'!

I hope so too, cuz I already took Monday afternoon off for the dentist. I can't afford to take any more time off. NO MORE SNOW

Sorry happnhensey....it's not a stinking joke. At least the snowfall amounts when down! I almost cried and DID go get a bottle of wine when they said at first we were supposed to get 8-16 inches. I could here the chickens outside grinding their claws and little knives on that one. Wait, I went and bought that bottle of wine anyway since we're still supposed to get 4-8 inches - most likely since I'm about 1,000 feet I'll end up with 10 or more anyway!

Silkie mind meld is an amazing thing! I actually just put three of my 8-10 week old Silkies in with a bunch of 1-2 week old chicks because the brooder light just didn't seem to keep them as warm as I likes. As soon as I put the Silkies in they took over and started mothering them all. Very funny to watch - they get in the corner and stand like a hen or huddle just enough that all these little chicks get right up under them and snuggle - too funny! Candled and bunch of eggs today and had to toss a bunch, various stages of just not going to happen. I do still have one incubator full of chicken eggs. The other has various ALBC ducks and a couple of geese that made it this far. I candled the geese and ducks today and saw plenty of movement and even insulted one or two with my stirring. They are due anyday now hence the candling.

We've been letting the chickens out now off and on for the last two weeks, especially this week. I found them a couple worms under a piece of wood and of course like the proud mother I am took them over to them. I am so bad

Hope everyone stays safe tomorrow! Stay in except for feeding if you can (watch out for chicken revolts...), drink some wine and make a nice pot of stew. I have a couple of extra Roosters that if they don't shut up are looking for the stewpot as it is!

You forgot to mention Cookie. Boy you are a snob. I know she's just an ordinary Cuckoo Marans. I hope she's doing ok. Probably being brainwashed by those Silkies of yours. I'm going to aim my Silky mind wave scrambler at your place and mess things up. You'll end up with a bunch of Dilkies, Sorkings, Sorpingtions and Dameraucanas.

That'll learn ya

Rancher

hehehehehehehehehe

Cookie is a great coop-guest! She layed eggs the first week then stopped till last weekend & now she's laying well. It's easy to tell her eggs from the Dorking girls. When I let the Dorkings out to range yesterday, they followed me around the yard -- Cookie followed right along. Just tell me when you want her back!

I've been totally brainwashed by my new Paint silkies... there's NO hope for me. Resistance is futile ----- I have been assimilated. They'll get you too.... mind wave scrambler or not! The power of the Paints is so strong that I don't dare even post a pic! MUAHAHAHAHAHA

Going into lockdown again tonite. Cuckoo Silkies are in this batch. along with more Dorkings, Ameraucanas & Orpingtons. Bought some new project Orp eggs & I'm excited to see what hatches.

Keep your fingers crossed for this one! Hopefully I'll have enough Lav & Split Orps to sell some.

I work for a school and if we do not have school tomorrow then we will have to go to school the Monday after Easter. We are scheduled to have 4/16-4/25 off. This is a Friday. I really don't mind going in, the kids are great.

Featherz - if I had chicks hatching tomorrow, I would definitely want to stay home and hover over the bator all day.

Cass- going to a new dentist next month. Mine was arrested last fall.

Fyrekitten - Oh, that is alot of snow, we are at the edge of the Heldebergs. Sometimes we end up with alot of snow and other times it just blows on by. Sorry.

So aren't you in the area that is supposed to get more now tomorrow hensey?

Silkie love, oh Silkie love - someone needs to write an ode to those chickens. Where do you guys find the paint Silkies - I would love to get my hands on a few if I don't end up having to sell this house and move into something more managable for my fibro (uggghhhhh

) and change in lifestyle. At least the chickens require less energy to clean up after than the couple of cows we have

yeah right! I now need the space for 20 chicks that are ready almost for outside with heat, another 12 that will be ready in a month (by then the other coop will be built) and then the ducks and geese that are hatching along with the last twenty eggs....I think I need some more eggs....I mean why waste two three empty incubators right...right????

U R the best! We'll have to figure that out - I'll PM you so we can talk price and availability! Yay! at least with these my husband wont grumble when the Postal Truck comes up the drive with four boxes of eggs again hee hee hee.

Has anyone heard of Dan Prather? He's the one I bought some "rare" blue marans, splash blue, Fr. Copper (I think) and Cuckoo Marans from. If I remember correctly he's in Ohio. Knowing many of you are really into your Breeders I thought you might know of him - I think I got a couple hatchers from him but I have to put the photos on a figure it out with you all. It was bad weather when I got them and it was my first hatching and I had to run out of town and the "Dear One's" let the incubators run out of water during hatching...sigh I lost a lot of babies, silkies, several kinds of marans and cochins too

I tried to get all or most of my eggs from reputable breeders except for the one snafu that Tigrlily was kind enough to help me with - man what a mess that one was! BTW, the Yokohama eggs went bye bye - count it as experience and a hard lesson!
