NY chicken lover!!!!

So the Skype thing pops up from General Dunford, which I do not know. Notifies me he's on line. It said "Hello Dear". I did not reply of course cuz even DW doesn't call me dear.

I've got a Pear Upside down cake in the oven. We shall see how it turns out. It calls for a 9" sq pan but I bet mine is bigger.

bald man on night court

Took me a only a second, and then I remembered this character! Wow, that was a long time ago.

I went up to the coop this am and saw feathers EVERYWHERE. My first thought was oh no, something got in the coop, but there were no holes in the fencing, the doors were closed, everything was good. I do a head count, one of my EE's comes out and looks like she exploded all her feathers! No wonder I hadn't seen an egg from her in 10 days, poor girl is going through her molt!

Well, as uncomfortable as she may be, it's better than discovering her either massacred or missing in action. I'm reading so much about the molt lately....another unpleasant part of chickendom, I guess!

SALLY - That's some hornet nest. We've got one that could be a bookend to yours in a large burning bush near the driveway. Shane got stung a couple of times this summer by what looks like a yellow jacket (but I know there's more than one kind of yellow wasp / hornet, so who knows). I originally thought the nest had some species of non-aggressive bee in it, but now after reading others' comments, maybe there are hornets inside. It seems inactive, but I know they're probably inside because the weather is cooler. I guess we should knock it down at night and dispose of it. Not sure the safest way.... Luckily, no allergies to stings in our house.

Well leggy my leghorn thought she was funny. I checked for eggs earlier and she and a red was in 2 nest boxes. So I go out again and she's in there still. I rake the bedding under roosts some and keep eye balling her. She isn't moving not blinking don't look like she is breathing so I poke my head a little closer and she just goes off. Scared the **** out of me. That girl was already done laying she was just sitting on the egg. I wasn't too happy lol.

I moved an EE roo , that I wasn't sure was a roo, until it was to late, into the BR coop since there was no roo there. Anyhow I picked him up in the dark of night and he was screaming his darn head off. You'd have thought I was killing him. Then last night I noticed he wasn't up on the roost with the others and picked him up and moved him. He starts screaming again.

I was concerned he'd get everyone going and the neighbors would come out to see what all the ruckus was.

I thought I'd hang on to him til spring and hatch chicks from him before he goes. He's in with two EE hens so I know which to hatch.

Yup- the back straps and tenderloins were finished off 2 days after my brother got it. It's funny, I've hunted for 4 years now, had may opportunities to shoot does and small bucks (spikes under 3 inches) , but have passed so many. The only one I did shoot was a big 3 pointer but never could recover it. My brother goes out opening day, sees one big doe and shoots it. Then it turned out to be the one doe I said I wanted to shoot this year. But, I have had a lot of opportunities this year to shoot other des and button bucks, but it's still early in the season and I love hunting so I don't have any problem with passing on deer and hoping to get a decent buck. It's not like we're hurting for meat so I have no pressure up to this point.

County Boy,

Since you always share such cool pictures, I thought I could return the favor.

Here are a couple of pics I took yesterday of a doe and a fawn.

I like to shoot deer, too, but I use my camera (haha).... I have hundreds of photo's. They're one of my favorite forms of wildlife to photograph and I enjoy the stealth and patience it requires. Hope you like the pics.

Mama Doe (She had triplets this year! A very good mom.)

Those are really clear pics. Love them. Every time I take pics of wildlife I can't steady my camera. Your pics are terrific though.:love

Start a roaring bonfire going on a cool night........get a daring person to take hive down & throw it in the fire. We had a nest at the firehall and thats how they did it. I am not saying its the right or safe way to do it........but it worked

Me I stayed in the building till it had all burned up.......I am allergic to them lol

Well I gave another silkie a bath today, my splash cockerel. I'm getting scared of what his crow is going to sound like soon. He seems to have a deeper bag of pipes on him than my lavender roo. He's starting to look so cool with all his splash markings coming in. Decided to give a dog a bath after that while I was at it. Here to hoping everyone stays clean for the next couple of days!

That Coronation Sussex on the homepage of this site is making me want one next spring. That boy sure is handsome!!

"Bag of pipes..." Too funny! Even though I don't want a rooster, I would bet that waiting to hear your roo really crow for the 1st time is part of the fun. But then maybe it gets kind of old fast! LOL!

We have neighbors across the street and one house over from my next-door neighbor that both have roos. I honestly don't mind hearing them and actually like it, but then I'm buffered by some land in between! Next to your bedroom window might be a little much day in and day out (or at 2 a.m., Lynzi)!

Thanks for the nice remarks on the white-tailed deer pics. I'm glad you enjoyed them!!

What's funny is everyone is back up in the furthest part of the yard away from the house and I still heard his squeaky crow. But then again I'm a light sleeper, a pin could fall and I'd wake up.
