NY chicken lover!!!!

We're not making the show either like I had wanted. DH is helping out at the Utica zoo for their spootacular next weekend. I didn't want to load up 3 girlies and go by myself. Didn't have the extra gas money either being we're heading to Rochester tomorrow for the older 2's dentist appointments. Bummed a little, we've gone to both shows during the year for the past 3 years.

Well I'm back from the show...It was nice meeting Gramma Chick and Miquwid! I was hoping there would be more silkies there but it was just a few whites and a few blacks, oh and some splash but only a handful of whites were for sale and I don't any whites. I have a hard enough time keeping the lavenders clean. the Polish are growing on me. I'd like to find a hen or two of those in the spring. But again, after getting home and seeing Gru out in the yard, I doubt they are something I could keep safely with the larger birds if Gru is in there with them.

So who knows what I'll end up adding to that group. My blue orp pullet is still too little to be placed with them. Worried Gru might get to her and end up injuring her. I also found out today (after speaking with the girl I got Gru from) that it's more than likely I got the eggs mixed up and the blue pullet I have is a pure orp and not a BR mix because her legs are blue. This would indicate that she came from Stella, my lavender orp. So I'm happy about that.

Someone had some beautiful Coronation Sussex for sale there but it was either a hen/roo together as a pair or two separate roos. and I realized I don't even like the hens as much as the roos and I just cannot have another roo in with Gru cuz he'll fight them. So there goes the idea of that breed! LOL Think I'll just stay focused on the Orps.

We're back too. It was nice to meet both Miquwid and Gramma Chick. There were some nice birds there. So much different than the fair, as usual. Lots of OEGB's in every color available.
I really hadn't planned on doing any buying but I always bring the dog crate just in case. I figured maybe I'd see a cochin or 2 I liked. No cochins but I did find some beautiful runner ducks.

The white one has just the body type I'm looking for, stands nearly straight, very slender and light. The black pair are nearly just as nice. The father to the white girl took best in breed today I think. If anyone is looking for a blue runner drake I have one available. He is the brother to Lindsay's girls. Hatched in June and carries the chocolate gene.

I've put it in my egg treats I give them. Before the dog attack I had lots of extra eggs I could hide anything I want them to eat in there sorta like dogs with cheese.

my black lab could be sound asleep and I'd unwrap some cheese. And there was Bear, right next to me....droolin....

Merlin (my younger dog) is currently on Prednisone therapy to keep his lymph nodes down and make him more comfortable...and American Cheese is the # 1 way to get the pills in him under wraps, literally! He knows the words "cheese, pills, tablets...." Doggies can definitely be food motivated with regard to learning.

Did you check with Marquisella? I got my Coronation Sussex from her. She is a buxom gal (the bird, NOT Marquisella, haha). She's my older son's bird and he named her Cracker. But I often call her nicknames like Oven Roaster or Dolly Parton. Very large breasted chicken and the boss lady of my younger trio.

Here's "Cracker", Lynzi.

I ended up getting one of these birds mostly because I liked the history involved in the breed. Kinda cool, I thought. Royalty, haha!

They are pretty but I wasn't as attracted to looks of the hen as I was the roosters. I think they're just beautiful with those big bluish tail feathers. But I cannot get another roo at this point, Gru would do nothing but want to fight it now that's he been the only one with the girls.
