Hi there! Welcome to byc and the ny thread!

Watch out for this one. She'll have you building hoop coops all over your yard and getting every breed of chicken there is, including those blasted Silkies!

Hi and welcome to the board.

I'm just north of you in the Hudson River valley area... Ossining. Where are you in LI?

.
I am in Suffolk County... Islip area

You're not terribly far from me actually. About 1 1/4 hrs. So what are ya raising in Islip?
I've got a mix of Buff Orpingtons, Wheaten Marans, Wheaten Americauna/Marans mixes, and a Jersey Black Giant, Dominque, EE, and a cuckoo marans. I love the gals and am enjoying the colorful mix of eggs.

Tab's chicken obsession :

I got myfirst buff brahma bantam egg of the year today! Of course I have a week to go on what's in my bator now and wasn't planning on running again until May, figures.

Thought you would like to know that I got one from them today also.

So much for not running the bator again.

Rancher: My husband told me yesterday and I quote "Silkies are the pocket purse dog of the chicken world"!

I had to admit that since we were in the car I laughed pretty dang hard, of course he was driving so I couldn't stop and kick him out after that either though!

Anyway, my daughter basically yelled at me today when I had to "stop" by tractor supply and of course looked at the chickies - the last several bantams they had all looked very very much like Silkies, mostly light colored but there was one that was going to end up a beautiful creamy color - I really wanted to have them but my daughter who is going to be 24 in the next two weeks basically yelled at me in the middle of TSC so I pouted but gave in. Stinking kids, even when they're grown they still try to rule your life at this age!

I have a chance to purchase an offer for about 50 eggs from someone here on the auctions - various breeds. Price is around $45.00 and shipping is $18.00 - Any thoughts?

Oh, you just HAVE to have them. There is probably 15 or so silkie eggs in the mix and you LOOOOOOOVE silkies.

IF any of mine die (you know the ones I don't have yet) I can buy replacements from you....so you already have a couple of the ones you don't want sold.

SO my thought is you need to get them (assuming you are not using any of the money for the morgage payment, that is)

OMG Cass!

Don't tell my husband

. No just kidding, I actually went and was a good girl and paid the mortgage today. Sigh, My mortgage would be sooo much better if NY didn't need so much to keep going under

I just PM'd the guy back as he had already told me that he was going to keep them - I kissed his chicken lovin behind though and maybe he'll let me get them after all. I had been bidding with someone pretty hard and the person who one didn't want them until next week so they would have been no good by then.

Crossing my fingers that he'll let me have them still! I had to go and do the "feed" thing today - uggghhh, chickens, cows, pigs - they always are hungry just like us. Except my 8 month old steers love mommy and expect mommy to feed them and get very VOCAL if I don't move it quick enough for them. Of course, it's still worth the nose kisses and scratches - those horns are beginning to hurt a little.

Ok, so I guess no one is required to talk to me. It was hard to put myself out there - blogs not really my thing, but wanted some people to converse with in the chicken world. I will get over it. Got my orpingtons.....

Sorry Happy!

My bad, I really laughed when you told us about your girl! I meant to mention something earlier but forgot the thread and got myself tangled up! Har har!

Seriously! She is one sneaky little gal - I think you should give her something to do like sit on some eggs weather ready for hatching or just ceramic to make her happy! Where exactly are you at? I would think if she lays now....21 days or so later that it will be the middle of May or so and with a brooder light and Momma the chicks would be more than warm enough. Dear Lord, I really am praying so!

We passed a Church on the edge of Johnstown/Gloversville today and my daughter and I just cracked up! She saw it first, it said "Dear God thank you for the snow - we have enough" I thought that was soooo great!

Hugs to you Happy! Watch out for those Orpingtons they'll rot your brain just not as quick as a Silkie!

Thanks Fyrekitten, just feeling low tonight I guess.

I like the church saying - we need a little laughter on snowy days in April.

I'm about an hour and a half West of you. I used to take my Mother in Law to Johnstown for eye surgery and follow ups.
I also got a dog from Oppinheim. You may be one of a few people who knows where that is.

Where are you moving to?

Thanks again for the hugs.

Happy Country Hens

Actually double hugs then - I understand and I know this weather can only make things worse. I say group chicken hug for the chickie here!

I actually do know where Oppenheim is as I live pretty close to Ephratah which is not far from there and I KNOW you'll know where that is. Kinda like out in the armpit of NY - like you!

OMG! My husband is going to roast me slowly - s l o w l y....I just paid for 50 some eggs from Vilamil farms on the BYC auction....it wasn't bad but it was baddd enough.

Hoping for lots of cuties though and of course will always take more eggs there - especially Silkies over Dellies.....oooppps um Rancher???? Just checking to see if you're reading!

My last little St Bernard Loki (10 yrs old) is taking a nap next to me just outside the office and running in her sleep - that makes me feel sad since her big brother died just about a week or so ago. sigh......miss my Odin! Wait! Stop vibing out the sads there Happy!

It'll pass tomorrow is supposed to be warmer and that just means the grass is getting greener and the tulips are coming up! My daffodils are starting to pop up along with the Hyaciinths and Tulips. Too bad you're so far away - we could go to TSC and gawk and chickies together and get a cup of coffee or something.

We plan on probably moving to the Lenoir area of NC or possibly Georgia hopefully Savannah area. It depends on where my husband can get his Company Transfer to. I told him any place South - he's hoping for NC and so am I!
wee.gif

I was born and raised in NY and my family is all from this way, Canada etc but I spent many years in the South and really learned to love it - VA was delightful - I was about 20 minutes from Busch Gardens-VA so you can imagine being near the Coast was quite nice!

Road Trip Everyone!
