I am in Suffolk County... Islip area
You're not terribly far from me actually. About 1 1/4 hrs. So what are ya raising in Islip?
I've got a mix of Buff Orpingtons, Wheaten Marans, Wheaten Americauna/Marans mixes, and a Jersey Black Giant, Dominque, EE, and a cuckoo marans. I love the gals and am enjoying the colorful mix of eggs.
Well right now I am kinda in between chickens..growing up I always have had between 7-10 large chickens, and my dads favorite is the Mille Fleur d'Uccle, so we always a few of those in our flock. We havent really replaced chickens because my parents are retiring and moving, and I will be moving with my boyfriend eventually off the Island, and its just going to be a real pain to move because I have horses so we were trying to keep down the chicken population, but I think over the years of me whinning, my dad this year finally gave me permission to get some chickens going because we have had some loses and then whichever chickens I want will be my responsibility to have to take my chickens with me.
So as of now, I have two Mille year old roosters, and two Mille hens, one and two years old. I have a white cochin hen named princess and that is exactly what she is! and I have a large hen who is a mix but I cant remember what she is it will come to me, but as she gets older she just gets eviler. haha
Princess is sitting currently on 6 eggs, they are either her eggs with some Mille eggs, they should be hatching in about a week. I but 23 eggs in the incubator, dad and I checked them the other night and 14 of them are good and well on their way to hatch. I have about 10 more Mille egg's from a different flock that just went into the incubator the other day. I also have a family friends hen sitting on 3 Jersey Giant eggs that my cousin gave me because she thought I would love them, but they came up from NC so I hope they hatch but we shall see in about a week as well! fingers crossed.
My plan with some extra Mille's is maybe do some trades, I am thinking about going to some of the Swap Meets, but I work at a tax office full time during tax season so I dont have that much time to look around and stuff.
So that basically is what I can sum up on my lunch break lol!
