NY chicken lover!!!!

here kitty kitty kitty
track has nails ..wondering if it is a fisher ..do you consider a fisher a cat ? or is it more like a qiant mink / weasel ?

that is a big cat. In typical cat fashion it found it just had to walk along a fallen tree on the ground rather than walk by it. Guess wild cats and domestic cats are pretty similar.

So is this actually Ted Nugents Dead Kitty ?

I'm not sure any of the BR eggs from e bay will hatch. I think they were packed too tightly.

They were wrapped with some paper towel, put in an egg carton and then packed in shavings. Certainly safe enough to not get broken but perhaps to tightly so the only thing that would move would be the inside of the eggs. Not a good thing.

I will candle again tomorrow day 7. I always add some of my own eggs as a control group.

are you thinking because they were tight in the carton ...that they got shaken too much ?

Hi-Ho Red, Away!!!

Totally stole this from face book. But so wish my chickens was this big. Well at least one or two there are a few I wouldn't trust.

Morning all. Got a dusting of snow last night and freezing rain on top. Still raining this morning and freezing. My silkies ran outside this morning in spite of the freezing rain. Thelma and Louise also strolled out this morning like it was just another day while the witchy terrorist wenches and Bill are hiding in the coop. Dh saved the heart and liver from the doe he got and cooked some up for them yesterday. Dont know how he kept all his fingers. Those feathered raptors are merciless when it comes to meat.

Rancher--I will keep my fingers crossed for your eggs. I find its always a crap shoot when you get eggs in the mail.

Lynzi--good luck with your hatch.

Stony---as usual....

Stay safe in this weather if you are traveling.

Same here a light dust with freezing rain. Its warming up now we keep putting leftovers outside so they go out now. At least with the water and feed in the run they leave the coop. Yes raptors when it comes to meat gave em fish yesterday. Love how they run around with a meat piece. Chicken TV is great.

That all sounds breathable to me at least.

Any plastic??

Breathable is not what I was getting at.

You see, when the box is jiggled the only thing jiggling would be the inside of the eggs. Packing "too tight" can be just as bad as packing to loosely. Too understand what I mean take an egg and shake it. It's not the same as if you rolled it around.

I've received eggs wrapped in bubble wrap and eight out of twelve hatched. There has to be some play in there.

Too one can never know how fresh the eggs are and of course if anything goes wrong , the seller can just blame the PO or you. Of course we can never know the integrity of the seller.

In either case this is why I set some of my own eggs as a control group.

I knew the risk of course, so I'm not complaining only that those who do ship eggs should be aware that tightly packed is not always the best.

Now mind you I would not like to see that cat out back but I do feel bad that it's dead. I hope you made some use of his life in either gloves, hats or slippers.

. And I am not sorry it is dead.

. Good sportsman need to keep the predator population in a balance or mother nature will do it for us in the form of slow PAINFUL deaths from rabies etc.

still laughin my butt off

Morning!!

It is soooooo windy out there today! I wanted to create some sort of trough for the ducks and chickens today out in the chicken yard but thats not going to happen. I don't put water or food inside the coops, so what I usually do is have two buckets out there, one for water and one for feed. But of course they always get knocked over. I wanted to take an old rubbermaid bin and cut it down in half or even by 3/4 and keep it close to the netting so I can just dump the water and feed in. The ducks like they're feed mixed with water so theirs is more like soup. The chickens I've noticed eat more of the feed that is wet than the feed that is dry so I think I can get away with making one trough for everyone than to have two separate ones in the chicken yard.
