NY chicken lover!!!!

Well I did it...I cracked open the egg. Found to me, what looks like, an undeveloped little blue chick. All sorts of organs and intestines outside of the body, which leaves me to believe it never finished developing. Did some googling looked like this chick on Day 19. So maybe as I broke open the shell the yolk sac broke leaving all the organs out and thats what I saw. Either way they were not inside the body yet, like this picture mentions, on Day 19 the yolk sac begins to enter body cavity. Weird that it went far and gave up.

Huntin Fool - nice run ! I'd like a permanet run like that and then my nets to open it off of during summer. I'll have to start saving up lumber and fence scraps.

thanks, like Rancher, i have discovered the benefits of the legendary 51 cent pile at HD, on the right day, right time, yo can really find some great deals, including all that red roofing on top of the coop. Lowes also has discounts, but you have to look for them, damaged pieces etc. my run shares a fence with the dog run, so my border collie likes to protect his flock, day or night

I wish it didn't take me 20+ minutes to get to the nearest HD or Lowes. I'd love to try to find some of that red roofing marked down...

I've noticed more tracks than usual. The girls were all hiding yesterday during the day and I noticed the Black and white cat in the woods playing with a mouse or something I think. It won't bother the girls but they don't know that.

I saw a huge Red headed wood pecker yesterday too.

The day before I saw a huge bird gliding over the area, but much bigger than a hawk I think. I didn't get my Binoculars I'd wanted for Christmas. I have to buy some.

Anyone got any advice on what to buy that won't cost and arm and a leg?

I've been seeing a rabbit through the hardware cloth at the base of the hoop coop run. I don't bother them. Also saw a mouse yesterday and set a trap but didn't catch it. I hate meeces to pieces!

I've posted my lone RIR and SLW hen on CL for $5 each. Next up may be the lav, bbs and blk orps. The blks are roos but very nice and round. All are headed in to year three. I'm tired and they're not good winter layers.

I don't understand it but that entire coop has gone dry. Even the EE's. I don't think they're happy. They look beautiful. I may go back to Dumor 16% with them.

hey Rancher, if youre looking for cheap binos, check wal mart sporting goods near guns, sometimes on clearance on back shelf. look at the bushnell, stay away from the small binos, look for something bigger like 10x42 or 7x35. for th money, bushnell isnt bad, but dont drop them or scratch the lenses and they will last for years, like anything else, the better you take care of them the longer they last

I found that at lowes marked down to 5 dollars a sheet, can you believe it? a couple of broken corners. i've seen i on craigslist once or twice, search "roofing". check once a week or so, you never know

this is the rat trap thin i made using a wooden box that i tried to make a feeder out of. it failed as a feeder, but works great with a loaded rat trap in it. keeps snow and ice off it, makes the rat approach the trap head on.
uses hot dogs for bait

I wanted to get the food & water out of the coop so made up a quick food station from things I had at home. It's protected from the elements and out of the coop so everything should stay cleaner. And since it's small only a couple can get in there at a time so maybe there will be less fights at feeding time.
