Rancher -- I know you said the black orps were roos but if you had a black hen I'd be interested.

These came from Hinkjc and are nice and round. The lav hens came from her too and are nice. The BBS came from Alabama. She's nice also. All are nice and full.

You'd most likely get more blacks in the crossings and could work from there. If you're looking for the English type these might be right up your alley. I should have hatched from them but I had a CR roo in there and didn't want the mess to sort out. He is gone now though.

this is the rat trap thin i made using a wooden box that i tried to make a feeder out of. it failed as a feeder, but works great with a loaded rat trap in it. keeps snow and ice off it, makes the rat approach the trap head on.
uses hot dogs for bait

It looks great. I've seen a similar set up hung on a tree to get weasels and another set on the ground. Can't say why they prefer small places.

I've considered your type of set up to get squirrels but am afraid I'd get the rabbits that are around.

Well my son desised today that he wants to show chickens next year. Wife and i think its more of something he can do with me. We dont go out much and with me on second shift i dont see him but in morning before school. Eather way i now have to see what color hes wanting and figure out a coop setup for silkies. I showed him some before work real fast. Looks like he liked the lavs and bbs. Have to get him a silkie book. No rancher not so je can read their crop circles lol.

I dont know why i have only two chicks laying right now. One is the one that had a prolapsed vent a month or so ago. The other i think is my gold laced cochin but not sure never see who lays it.

Joan tis the season for hens to slow down or stop laying. It's a natural thing for them. I can't blame them I would want a break as well

No sign of the missing fall chick this morning. And I believe that EE was a pullet, the remaining white EE chick a roo. Something grabbed Luna's body and dragged it into the trees and ate her head/neck overnight. Probably coon. Not sure what to do with the body, hubby wanted to bury her but even the manure pile is frozen. All her June chicks searched for and found her body and bawk bawked at it. Although she was done being broody, she still looked out for them.

ETA: found the chick, was under the riding lawn mower, still alive. But surely sore from being cramped up and dehydrated. Locking her in the coop by herself with food and water for awhile.

I'm sorry to hear about your hen, and glad you at least found her chick.

I wanted to let the ladies out today but didn't dare since I'm pretty sure I saw that darn fox in the field the other night. She's lookin hungry...

Oh, and I found out this past week that I'm going to be an Aunt!!!

Thanks to the rain the chicken yard is pretty much flooded again. UGH Everyone is locked up, well I'm still waiting in the newbie drake to get into his house with the others. He's just standing out there whining for the others. I say whining, don't really know what else to call it because it's not quacking when it comes from a drake. Anyway, got the silkie pen cleaned today. Also raked up ALL the dirt dug out by that nasty whatever it is living alongside my house. I'm going to set traps out as soon as I can find them. I know we had a 6 pack of mouse traps we never opened from last summer and i cannot find them anywhere. I haven't seen that chipmunk since that one day I was pulling into the driveway. Which leaves me to believe maybe it just took cover in that hole because it was there. IDK, I need to find those traps....

All the darker dirt below is where I had to rake and fill in the dirt that was dug out and piled up under rabbit hutches. Can't wait to see what it looks like tomorrow.

I'm sorry to hear about your hen, and glad you at least found her chick.

I wanted to let the ladies out today but didn't dare since I'm pretty sure I saw that darn fox in the field the other night. She's lookin hungry...

Oh, and I found out this past week that I'm going to be an Aunt!!!

Dare I say you need a trap or other method of disposal. If you have squirrels you might feed them something laced with Rx and when they slow down the fox will go after them and you can get a twofer.

I've not seen the fox of this past spring. I have seen plenty of squirrels though. I've not put out any baits for them yet, but may soon. I have to set the trap up on top of something so I don't get the rabbit by mistake.

I did that once and the poor thing was so scared I had to dump it out of the trap.

Oh and Congrats on becoming an Aunt.

Went to Lynzi's today to pick up our new duck! He is a beautiful blue runner that she got for me from ke5hde. I'm in love with him already. The kids were so excited untill the ride home when I told them that Sanjay died. I kept out all the details. They just know that he died and now we have our new one. Looks like dh will have his way and his name will be Remington TuffLips (from their favorite cartoon) I call him Remmy. Anyway after we got home I pulled out the duck hut and added a diffrent more secure door and a back so that nothing will be able to get into it. I have to fix the back cause as of right now the only way to get into it is through the duck door. I think that I'm going to move it to a diffrent area too. I'll finish the back tomorrow, but I know that it is alot safer then before. I managed to catch them both and put them in it...I'm sure that they will be safe in there. If not then I'm done!

They seem to be getting along well. They had a few little spats after a few minutes, but have been good buddies ever sence...Now I need to get them some girlfriends!

I'll get some better pictures tomorrow and one of my new Duck Hut.

OMG He's huge compared to Craig! LOL Still love the white coloring on ducks! Miss it, I'm going to have to get me something with some white come Spring. Glad they are getting along!!

I'm glad you like him. He's been a good boy with the other drakes. I had 4 drakes and 4 ducks together and they all got along. As Lindsay said, he looks huge and so was his dad. Give em a week or so and they'll be best friends.
