OMG, I wanted FIVE chickens. I didn't even have my coop finished and somehow I had 16 being hatched for me. I have been saying 14 for 2 weeks now and I just added it up again and it's 16. That's the problem with chicken math. You never can add it up right.

Coop is finished now. 4 banties are down there now making the cat wonder where I disappear to for an hour at a time. LOL

If you hang around here much you will find that the coop you KNEW was perfect for your needs is only HALF the size you ultimately need. You have been warned. Plan accordingly.

Don't forget, some may be boys. You could probably double what you are getting as chicks and still have room.

My first incubator hatch I got 4 out of 20 so I thought what the heck I will do 20 eggs again. 16 hatched... I had to sell 8 but I couldn't part with the rest... now I want a different breed with diff colored eggs and maybe turkeys and meat birds too...

Who would have thought chickens were addicting

Wait!!!! Chicks don't count in chicken math! That's the old chicken math... the new chicken math only counts fully grown chickens! Really! Otherwise that would mean I have somewhere in the neighborhood of 200 chickens!!!!!!!!

Silkies only count as half a chicken. Orps count as 1.5 chickens. Dorkings don't count because they're on the critical breeds list.

I was on the phone with a breeder in Texas & hubby realized I was ordering 2 dozen eggs. I was getting the hubby version of the stink eye till he realized they're Dorkings. Then it was OK. I love that he's on the Preservation bandwagon with us.

Yep, I want them. But my COOP IS FULL. (and there is no way he'll build me another one THIS year. Next year? bruahahahaha)

The auction is this saturday. I'll be there.

Did you say you need eggs? Need to stay away from eggs? We're all a bunch of enablers here. Nice people --- but enablers all the same!

I'm doing the first cull of my grow-out pen, so I'll be bringing a bunch of cockerels to the auction.... mostly split orps, lav/wheaten project Ameraucanas & maybe a lav orp or two. I have to make room out there for my Dominiques. Harder for me to cull the Doms, since I'm new to the breed. I don't think I'm bringing chicks or eggs for auction. But if anyone wants to pick up there, that can be arranged.

Tigrlily - Your Meaties are Amazingly big. They are much bigger than my orps which are 2 weeks older. Hope you make it to 8 weeks.....

Frykitten - You crack me up!

My DH thinks I'm losing b/c we are going to have 32 chickens. Whats so nuts about that?

Should be interesting when the Murry McMurry order shows up.

Looking forward to seeing some coop pictures.

Happy Country Hens

PS: Cydney83 - Sounds like you have some cool chicks. My DH would let me bring home the chicks, then ask where I was going to live!
