Ok, daily update.
3 eggs from the 4 ladies. One is slacking, but they just started laying 2 weeks ago, so I guess I can cut them some slack.
Treats? OMG, you would have thought I brought them a diamond ring when I held out a stalk of cooked broccoli leftover from my mom's dinner last night. Of course Boldie Hawn had to eat it first, then while the others ate broccoli B. Hawn attacked the rest of the food in the treat bucket. (ok, it's not a bucket, it's a margerine container, but they are just itty bitty hens an actual bucket would be WAY overkill)
Oatmeal was a real hit. Cold cooked oatmeal. (leftover from my breakfast) Of course Ms Hawn had to stick her beak in so far it got stuck on the outside. It was funny to watch her try to wipe it off on the sand. Then peck at the spot she left there.
Carrots, not so much. Squash? Totally not a hit. They left it on the floor and went back to the oatmeal. I probably should keep a log of what they like and what they don't. Guess I'll wait til I have the whole flock before I start documenting stuff like that. Maybe the LF will like carrots and squash.
I sure hope they all like pumpkins and watermelon. I have already started those in the house so I get a head start on the growing season and an earlier harvest.
I tried to pick them up today, for the first time since I lifted them out of the box. 3 were ok with it, as long as I held the broccoli in my other hand. Meg Flyin' was having none of the cuddle time. She flew off my lap in record time, wings flapping for minutes after she hit the ground. Funny girl.
Can't wait til I get my chicks. Since my first 4 are banties, I can probably integrate the new chicks into the flock at about 4 weeks of age. They'll be the same size then.
