NY chicken lover!!!!

I am looking at the Dominique

Egg Production:
egg%5FB%5FVH
on TSc ..
oldest American breed of chicken and was originally brought to the colonies from southern England in the 15th century. Dominiques are considered a "Heritage" breed of chicken
Today the breeds club is still going strong and has more than 200 members. Although the Dominique is on its way to recovery, its still listed as Threatened with a population of less than 5,000 breeding birds...Pretty Birds

I have Renamed TT she is is now SweetT.
/baby may be tweetT

See the baby hiding ? No ?

Here it popped out

I had three from the hatchery in my first chickens. One got sick and I put here down, another was a runt and the third was nice for a mom and she did got broody. Hatched two for two in the dead of winter. Very protective. They are not a friendly breed per se', but I'm sure there are exceptions to the rule.

Like many breeds there are not a lot of "breeders". Folks who keep large flocks of any one breed. Which si why I deleted the orps. Mine were also noisy. Though I do miss them. Never had a roo.

Welp, I have 6 white La Bresse eggs coming. I have a Hovabator to fill up!! thats a start. Anyone have turkey eggs? or Delawares, Orpingtons, Rosecomb RIR, Barred rocks? oh my list goes on and on I'm in trouble.

Where in central ny are you. I breed Dels and am looking to order hatching egg from GA soon. I hope to increase there size. They are laying up a storm right now. They do well in confinement. By that I mean inside a run.

It's very hard to pasture chickens when you have more than one breed and areas are not fenced off.

Mr. Rabbit, Mr. Rabbit your ears are mighty long. Yes good Sir they're put on wrong. Every little soul must shine, shine , shine. Every little soul must shine, shine, shine.

Noticed the bunny this am, he/she's still there. Doesn't seem to mind the chickens nor me. I don't go poking around of course. It's under the plastic that I spread out slightly so the Pineapple Mint didn't get crushed by the snow.

Yep - I had the plum trees - they do well in clay soil - not sure about the acidic .... ? They are pretty hardy - and grow well along roads - so that tells you they can handle the pollution and sluge and oil and salt from the road.

If you give it a first good year - I would think they would be hard to kill unless you saw them up.

hay rancher I'm about a hour from Syracuse near Waterloo. If you have too many Del eggs I will happily buy some. Rose comb RIR too. Yes I can imagine how creative one must get to give them all pasture time I will be doing the same I don't want to mix them. I have some plans to give everyone space that will work well for them. And still give my turkeys lots of room to do their thing away from the chickens. Won't be mixing ground.
If you see some Rosecomb RIW would you let me know? please and thank you

I've got 18 of 40 spots in the hova spoken for just hope to run a full boat this time. Well possibly 21 spots full if I get the 3 Auburn Java eggs today

So 40 ( IF they all hatched) will be plenty to brood this time and by the time they are good and ready for the coop it should be lots warmer out. That should fix me up for chickens for a while.

Evening All,
Busy day...had to get all my running around done today since DH is off to Brooklyn for the next three days.

Got the larger brooder set up set up for the ducks. The chicks are being kept separate in a smaller one. Ducks have their own little "pool" now if they want to jump into the water.
ended up setting 7 eggs last night in the Brinsea since it was ready and 4 today in the LG.
Since the silkies are laying now (fingers crossed they keep at it) I took the nest box that I removed from the duck house and set it in their pen in the shed. They were in it all afternoon, checking it out, trying out each side, scratching around in there, but no eggs today. They look happy though!

And now Mr. Lonnie Lavender is in there picking up hay, dropping it in front of them, repeating, speaking some foreign language to them...I hope it's not some kind of Alien Talk for "Hey Ladies, Now's the time to go broody!"

Not a big fan of silkies, but he is very pretty!

Well this weekend was a waste, migraine since yesterday afternoon and it finally released its grip an hour ago. At least it was in time for the crew to stretch their wings outside. 3 eggs today!
That's my splash hen, Jane. I wish she had a bigger crest of feathers but I love her splash coloring.

Glad to hear your migraine went away. Yayy on the eggs!!
