NY chicken lover!!!!

When I got back home from work at 4 we had almost 2 ft of snow. 5 girls were stranded in the old run and the other 3 were in the coop. I had a parade as I shoveled the way to he coop. I closed up the old run and they stayed in coop till my mom went out to do a last egg check. Everything in county was shut down for the day. I'm back at work for some OT.

Evening all. I think we missed a lot of the storm. We are getting some rain. Supposed to get sleet and snow overnight. I hope we dont lose power as my eggs are progressing nicely in the bator. Sorry to hear the rest of you are getting hammered by snow I do not have white silkies by the way.

Be safe everyone. .

DH "shut it down" (Gordan Ramsay voice) today at 5. Hopefully he does crash my new car on his way home.

Has anyone been out today to see what the highways are like??

Roads are TERRIBLE! DH stayed home from work today and decided he still needed to run into town for no apparent reason. On his way home, he noticed a horse and buggy had slipped into the ditch over by our house. Poor guy....poor horse. All is ok though!

We used sand in our coop...it hasn't been too bad. Except, it got quite soggy in there when the snow started melting. But then, with shavings, it would have been just as bad.

Hubby picked up a load of sand from the local gravel yard...it was pretty cheap. He then modified a four prong rake by attaching fine chicken wire to it...effectively creating a giant kitty litter scoop. I scoop poop every couple of days and it's been fine.

What kind of silkies do you have ?

DH made it home, 81 is still a parking lot he says.

Glad to hear it hope everyone is safe and warm at home. Had over a foot of snow on the back porch at noon, dogs were not pleased. At 3pm had to go shovel a parking pad for my husband to put the car in and was praying he could even make it home. He did. He has to work tomorrow since the county jail never closes.. so we'll be out there shoveling the car out at 6 am...

Mother nature has a very sick sense of humor sometimes... comon Friday!

I shoveled it earlier to take some weight off... I imagine it looks like this and probably worse now, the dogs need to go out once more tonight which means find the shovel..

We didn't get much snow here, but roads are still very slick. Watched a horse and buggy fish tailing down the hill, could see the horse was slipping a bit, but still kept at a good trot down the hill. We are always told to slow down in bad weather and don't drive any faster than the road conditions. Apparently this does not apply when you have 4x4 horse.

We lost power for about 3 hours today... I wrapped the two incubators in blankets, moved the chicks into the dining room crate and all next to the heater and laid down to take a nap. Was all I could do. Praying the power stays on.
