NY chicken lover!!!!

another thumbs up for Natureberry! Natureberrys website www.natureberryfarm.com is very good also. they list all their breeds and dates available, very friendly couple with lots of knowledge, hands down the best local choice, i drive an hour to get there, pine creek in lyons also has the best chicken feed around IMO, i think i paid @ $17 for an 80# bag of layer feed! their feed is not totally pulverized into powder like some places, looks more like expensive songbird seed! my birds love it and wont eat anything else. BOSS is cheaper than anywhere else, also. keep up the good work Natureberry!

Desiree be careful when purchasing white silkies from TSC or any other hatchery. I'm not sure what quality you are looking for and if it even matters to you but a hatchery Silkie will not be as nice looking as one you could find from someone who raises them on their own. Google white silkies and you will see the difference.

This stupid weather. I took a slow ride into a guardrail on the highway on my way home after hitting some black ice. No real damage, I knocked off a little decorative thing, bent my licence plate, and shifted my hood over a touch, but all cosmetic. But still. Ah well, my grandpa's a mechanic and I have an appointment with him tomorrow already for an oil change so I'll have him take a look at everything just to be sure.

And half of my eggs today were frozen solid today too. Where the heck is spring!?
I was sure that I was going to end up in a ditch the other day and was surprised when I didn't. Glad you are ok.

So my ducks arrived this morning all dead. It says they were shipped out on the 10th. I was saposed to get them the 12. I'm so mad! I have to wate until 8:00 central time to get ahold of someone at the hatchery. This is the last time I use a hatchery ( or at least this one).... I'm so sad! On top of it I can't figure out how to work my incubator and nothing is hatching for me.

maybe I should just quit..,
So sorry about your ducklings.

It had to be devastating to open that box. Sounds like there's a real learning curve to running an incubator. You will figure it out. Hope you find some fuzzy little chicks begging you to take them home soon.

Looking forward to the days when we can complain that it too hot!

Now that's a lot of snow! I am surprised and glad my netting did not break! Strong stuff

I'm so so sorry.

Here are the two that hatched overnight. Another just hatched and the poor think is getting trampled by these two so they're under the heat lamp now.

Third Chick hatching:

They all seem to be blues so far.

I'm very excited for you yayy!!!!

I just called them they are sending us a replacement for Monday. Also my hubby said we can go to TSC and get an upgrade incubator.

I'm going to look at chicks while I'm there. Looking for white silkies. I'm going to google what they look like as baby's bc I forgot.

Thats good yeah like LYNZI said careful about the chicks you get there The amber links are hardy and tough but don't always get their carmel spots.

I agree I buy my food from them along with chicks every now and again.

Morning all. Little warmer today. Released the silkies for some freerange time. They are happy to be out of their runs. Terrorists will get some outdoor time later today.

Lynzi--your blue babies are beautiful. I will have to go talk to my blue girls again and get them laying!!!

Desiree--do yourself a favor and find a reputable breeder and buy from them. I had hatchery silkies once and they arent even close to what breeder quality silkies are. If you are going to spend money, you might as well start with a good foundation.

Enjoying my day off today. Hark, do I see sun???

Quote: Same here I drive about a hour to get there well worth it, I agree!! and Pine Creek offers NON GMO which I love.

yes I really like to be able to look on the website and see what they have before I go.. some of their stock they breed right there but I can't remember what it is.

Desiree and Lynzi, I have some Silkies hatching on the 20th by calendar. I had 15 eggs from show birds in assorted all kinda colors so I'm not sure what I'll get if you are looking for a special color. These are local and nice stock the guy shows and does lots with his birds.
Some could be frizzle as well I'm told. They'll be cute at any rate! I saw the silkie chicks over at Naturberry they looked pretty nice to me but I'm no expert.

O I'm glad that sounds like things are looking up then.

I'll have some nice local bred silkies hatch the 20th too I hadn't planned on keeping them all if you are still looking at that time.

Well, I had a plan to hatch in the LG but I can't get the humidity up enough for the turkeys. 60% is it. I have sponges and little jars of water and also water in the goody below the wire. BLAH!! I don't wanna put the eggs in there till its where it should be.

Not sure what else I can do but just add more sponges or water containers?

I cannot believe how fast these chicks hatch once they get zipping! Holy moly! My daughter and I were able to witness the last three hatch, well last two. The last one is at it now, taking forever. But the last two hatched in literally under 20 minutes. All different shades of blue, love it!!!! And the last one that just got done hatching is the lightest of all of them, so maybe a splash??? I know this guy I got them from had a white rooster over a white hen, a black hen and splash hen. I didn't think I would end up with many blues. Weird. But I'm happy with it because they are all that light blue I've been looking for.

Just tiny bit bummed because The first two that hatched over night, one only has 4 toes, the other has 5 but has pink tips on two of it's toes.

So those are out of my breeding program. I'll have to rehome them as pet quality, hope I don't have a hard time finding them new homes. The one that just hatched has 5 toes no pink and the third that hatched has 5 as well. So that's good at least. I can keep those two. I don't think these chicks are going to bearded. They don't seem to have any poof going on under their beaks. I'll have to see how the last 3 dry out.

All in all, I cannot believe that all 5 hatched successfully! I am soooooooo happy! Guess dry hatch is the way to go!
