NY chicken lover!!!!

Holy Mudflats Batman! Almost had my boots sucked right off my feet when I went out to let the terrorists out. They have mud up to their hocks. I thought I was going to sink to my ankles in some spots! I looked under their coop and all the ice has melted into pools under there. All the hole they dug are now swimming pools. I will have to check everyones feet and legs to make sure there are no issues. The terrorists were after any green grass they could see and had a nice dust bath under the vent for the furnace. It is the prefered dusting area. Silkies are pouting in their runs because they wanted out. They will get the day tomorrow since I dont have to work till 3. Little miss witchy pants bit me when I checked under her for eggs. She is on two now. Im ahead with 8 in the bator but will candle tonight to see how many are fertile. No signs yet from the other bator of pips. Havent heard cheeps yet either but its early yet. They all looked good at lockdown. I miss my dog but am so glad he isnt here to track in all this mudd on my beige carpets! He is the only water dog (a choc. lab) who hated water. My girls used to yell at him to get in the tub when he would come home stinking. He looked miserable, tail tucked, head down, ears back, long face when they would make him get in the tub for a bath. Funny to see but he would get in for them and let them bath him. What a job.

I think someone needs to go lion hunting. There is one called March that needs killing so warmer weather can get here!

Time to go check on the critters and get the feed out of the car.

well I managed to get in and out of our local TSC without buying any pasty butted silkies...

out of mercy. Lord knows I wanted to bring them all home and fix them up. The little dark ducks looked really nice that was a huge temptation!

Got a splash egg when I returned home from dance tonight! So that's three splash in the bator and 4 lavender! Although I say splash, I don't know what color lavender x splash will produce. Can't wait to find out!

No mud yet, but dreading the season. With 3 Bernese Mountain Dogs it will be a beach in my house. Thankfully I have hardwood floors but they still take a beating. Just gave one a bath today and she smells so good. Makes it so worthwhile. Can't wait for my chicks...another month. It's been 15 years since I had chickens, but look forward to it again finally. Love that I found BYC. It is so much help. Wish it had been around 15 years ago.
Holy hair Batman! Yea we finally ripped up the carpet here and put in a hardwood laminate floor. I love it. Be careful, BYC is almost as bad as facebook and pinterest....

Glad you're here.

Ok - curiosity has got me..........has anyone ever crossed a polish (with or without top hat)
big_smile.png
with a brabanter??? If so what did the chick look like???? The hairdo should be pretty wild.........
Try it!
I have a friend that has a polish rooster and all his crossed offspring look more like brabanters. They're crossed with anything from SLW, Golden comets, australorps and Mille fleurs. Cool looking birds.

I have to give our big dog bath tomorrow just cause he is stinky. He's a Golden retriever/ Blue Tick Coon hound mix. His name is Mater and that explains his attitude 100%. He's 78lb of dead weight for a bath. The dogs don't really get to muddy except their feet. They track mud in like crazy!

He was about a year in this pic but he has this dumb look still all the time!

Just watching the news and we are supposed to get 2-4 inches of snow tonight! I thought that today was the first day of spring! Mother Nature is so cruel.

I just saw you made the batman reference as well, lol. I love labs. I grew up with them and german shepherds. We got into labs when we started raising Guiding Eyes for the Blind puppies. My mom still does and is getting a black and tan lab in April. GEB's breeding colony is producing a few of those throwbacks. They are beautiful!

Sorry back to chickens, no egg eater tonight!

Both mine are lab crosses lol

If I stuck an egg into incubator this afternoon around 3-4ish, and then swapped it out with another egg at 7ish? Is the one I removed ok to store in my fridge for eating?

I didn't think I was going to get a splash egg today so I stuck 5 lav eggs and 2 splash in the Brinsea at 4 or so. So when I came home to the splash egg I wanted it in the incubator instead of an extra lavender. Should it be ok to eat?

I would think so but if you see any change in the "spot" , I would toss it. I have plenty of eggs here and could give you some if you really want them.

Breella, are you hatching?

I need some one near by to hatch some eggs I believe to be Frizzles. Buchwheat appears to be laying and since I won't be here to hatch them could use someone to do it for me. She's three at least but still laying and I don't know for how much longer. I doubt they're Frenchy's though that would be nice.

Of the chicks I recently hatched one is a Frizzle. Don't know pullet or roo yet. It's White like the mother. Not sure who the father is. She's now with a Lav auracana so I'm hoping. I do plant to put a few in when I get back.

So I had a nice talk with DH tonight. I always seem to have anxiety attacks when I try to talk to him about my plans with my flock. I think that it is because he can tell me no. We talk about everything else in the world. So anyway things went well. He didn't have to much to say about it. I think that it helped that he was watching basketball. I told him about the new ducklings that should be coming soon, about the chickens that I would like to get to get my ideal flock, and the bantam projects that I want to do. He had been quiet for a little while when I asked him what he thought. His response was the following.

"I don't talk to you about transmissions and engines, so you don't have to talk to me about the chickens and ducks. All I really want to know is how much it is going to cost me and what am I going to have to build!"

I reminded him that we watch all his car shows and auctions when he is home.

He seems not that interested in them, but we were talking about my pekin. I mentioned that it really doesn't fit into my plans with my ducks and that I may have to rehome it or we could eat it. He looks at me with a funny face and said that I can't get rid of it, it's too cute. He is to funny. So it looks like I need to buckle down and figure things out!
