NY chicken lover!!!!

A long time ago we were talking about Apple Cider Vinegar....more specifically if you could add some of the Mother from one (expensive) bottle to a bottle of regular (cheaper) ACV and have it change to ACV with Mother in it.

The answer is "yes you can"....further more you can use the cheap bottle you turned into ACV with mother in it to "infect" other bottles.

So if you want to add Apple Cider Vinegar to your flock's water once a week (or less, even) but are put off by the over $4+ a bottle for the ACV with the Mother in it (cuz that is the kind that actually helps the digestive system of all animals including humans) you can spend the $4- $6 ONCE and make your own from the cheaper bottles on the supermarket shelf.

I let my "infected" bottles sit for about a month...or until I saw the cloudy stuff forming on the bottom of the bottle, like the original expensive bottle has. Oh and remember to shake up the bottle before you pour part of it into another bottle so you are sure that part of the "mother" is going in with the liquid you are pouring. (I didn't once, and it took FOREVER to start the new bottle forming the cloudy mother in the bottom)

What have you tried to get them out ?
Shoveling a path ? so they can see grass ?
Do they have any where to go ? Mine go under my deck if there is a path shoveled
Put their food outside ? give them a treat path to follow .?
Is your coop / run dark ? That is why they may have stopped laying ...are they getting Layer ?
Add a light in there to get them to start ..Ive noticed also darker days less eggs
Just some suggestions

not recent but this is my Australian cattle dog
joke : the dingo got my doggie ! This is my new favorite dog - blue Heeler
So I had a nice talk with DH tonight. I always seem to have anxiety attacks when I try to talk to him about my plans with my flock. I think that it is because he can tell me no. We talk about everything else in the world. So anyway things went well. He didn't have to much to say about it. I think that it helped that he was watching basketball. I told him about the new ducklings that should be coming soon, about the chickens that I would like to get to get my ideal flock, and the bantam projects that I want to do. He had been quiet for a little while when I asked him what he thought. His response was the following.

"I don't talk to you about transmissions and engines, so you don't have to talk to me about the chickens and ducks. All I really want to know is how much it is going to cost me and what am I going to have to build!"

I reminded him that we watch all his car shows and auctions when he is home.

He seems not that interested in them, but we were talking about my pekin. I mentioned that it really doesn't fit into my plans with my ducks and that I may have to rehome it or we could eat it. He looks at me with a funny face and said that I can't get rid of it, it's too cute. He is to funny. So it looks like I need to buckle down and figure things out!
So you can keep your hens & add some ?

If I stuck an egg into incubator this afternoon around 3-4ish, and then swapped it out with another egg at 7ish? Is the one I removed ok to store in my fridge for eating?

I didn't think I was going to get a splash egg today so I stuck 5 lav eggs and 2 splash in the Brinsea at 4 or so. So when I came home to the splash egg I wanted it in the incubator instead of an extra lavender. Should it be ok to eat
Should be fine ...People leave eggs out for days ..

I did that with some eggs ...to age them ..
Heard you could ..I wanted to make Deviled eggs..
I left them out on the counter this winter for 5 or so days ..
after a couple days my hubby asked whats going on with these eggs ..?
Well When I boiled them ..the shells ALL peeled off perfect except for one .

New Babies :So do you think your babies are a polish silkie mix ?
