NY chicken lover!!!!

Shoot~! he already popped out!

I can't see how many toes yet but he has blackish colored feet. So cute and lots of long feathers. I think he is the same color as my dog

So I had a nice talk with DH tonight. I always seem to have anxiety attacks when I try to talk to him about my plans with my flock. I think that it is because he can tell me no. We talk about everything else in the world. So anyway things went well. He didn't have to much to say about it. I think that it helped that he was watching basketball. I told him about the new ducklings that should be coming soon, about the chickens that I would like to get to get my ideal flock, and the bantam projects that I want to do. He had been quiet for a little while when I asked him what he thought. His response was the following.

"I don't talk to you about transmissions and engines, so you don't have to talk to me about the chickens and ducks. All I really want to know is how much it is going to cost me and what am I going to have to build!"

I reminded him that we watch all his car shows and auctions when he is home.

He seems not that interested in them, but we were talking about my pekin. I mentioned that it really doesn't fit into my plans with my ducks and that I may have to rehome it or we could eat it. He looks at me with a funny face and said that I can't get rid of it, it's too cute. He is to funny. So it looks like I need to buckle down and figure things out!
I'm so glad I'm not the only renegade wife with chickens. DH isn't a big fan of my flock either but he puts up with it because he knows I enjoy it.
Good plan to talk to him about it while he's watching baseball!

Well it's always good to talk about things and agree. When I retired DW and I talked and agreed I would get chickens. She either enjoys me being away or really doesn't mind taking care of them when I'm away, cuz she encourages me to go. OR she just wants me to visit my grandchildren.

So you can keep your hens & add some ?
I don't think that he will mind, but I may still thin a little. I told him that I would like to have a total of 8-10 full sized hens. With the stipulation that I can get rid of the eggs. I'm going to end up keeping some and getting a few that lay other color eggs like blue, green, and possibly white. I know that I would have at least 1 steady egg customer if I had some white eggs. She's a little out there and will only eat white eggs. Then I will have about the same in bantams possibly...Then there is the flock of ducks!

I thought so too! We were talking about getting a new chair and while I was on line looking at them we were also talking about my birds. I try to only divulge just so much information so as to keep him in the loop... kinda ...What he doesn't know can't get me in trouble.

But I never lie to him that is a NO NO. But I don't always tell him all the details.

So I was up at 3:30 am for reasons I won't go into but thought I heard some noise outside, it was DW snoring, anyhow I remembered I forgot to close up the coops last night. So quick threw on a jacket and went out in the snow and closed everyone up. Nothing was amiss thank the Lord.

This cold weather just gets me down so much. I wonder if I'm up to another year of chickens. Trudging through the snow and mud. I would be so happy with one more month of warm weather, each year.

Wow I just called two of our local tractor supply stores....they should not be in the chicken business at all!!! Nobody knew anything about them. I just wanted to know what breeds they had/would get in this weekend. I was tranfered like 6x. I ended up getting a man that said " we have white ones and red ones. I think they are girls" .
