NY chicken lover!!!!

I wash my eggs & sell them for $3/doz to friends & co-workers & sometimes give them away as well.

I had someone come back to me later telling me that "her friend" dumped a whole plate of my eggs freshly scrambled into the garbage bc she wasn't sure if I had a rooster and the thought that the eggs might have been fertile and she could be eating chicken embryos mortified her.

I let her know that no I didn't have a rooster w those hens & yes I collect eggs daily so even fertile eggs would not develop at all. I wanted to but did not tell her about the conventional store bought eggs are raised in disgusting small cages where the roosters are ground up & fed back to the hens. It is mortifying to me to think of eating conventionally produced eggs from tortured hens.

My BIL will not eat local brown eggs bc he's reminded that they come out of chicken butts. He prefers to buy his eggs from Walmart bc then he doesn't have to think about the chickens.

Everyone has their reasons.

I know so many people who won't take eggs from me because they came from "real chickens". Also, some only want white eggs, no brown, blue or green. So crazy!

So are those people eating live animals? Or ones that dropped dead of unknown reasons? People need to be educated. The ?usa is one of the few countries where eggs are washed, I have heard. My friend who lives in Mexico, the country, said that eggs are displayed in the aisles, unrefridgerated. So I am betting that they are not washed...grrr. I prefer animals to most people.

The people who buy my eggs love them and claim they can't get anything like them at the store. It evens out in the end. I would appreciate my birds even if they never gave me eggs. I'm glad that there are people out there that appreciate happy chicken eggs tho.

...sigh... Yeah.

I was told its cruel for me to eat my own chickens and that they won't eat an animal if they know its been killed.

The BIL who won't eat brown eggs from chicken butts also won't eat chicken or other meat w bones in them. Everything has to be deboned & processed. Bc then he feels he's not eating animals.

I grew up in CT where people think everything north of manhattan is "upstate NY". Buying local means going to the mall or the grocery store. We've become so removed and so spoiled that not only do we forget to respect where our food really comes from, but many people are ignorant enough to judge irrationally those that are willing to grow their own protein.

It's sad. But I'm holding out hope that it's a cycle. Hoping that with the healthy foods craze that people will come around. It may be futile, but I'll keep hoping (and I'll keep buying local meat).

The funny thing is they'll eat any meat from a grocery store. I tell them that what they are buying probably isn't even meat! I don't have any problems getting rid of eggs but some only want white or brown. Very few want the blue or green. Some are getting better. I tell tell them it's either the colors or nothing.

Do you wonder how they think the chickens get from walking around clucking to being packaged? lol
