NY chicken lover!!!!

Looooove all the baby pics!!! I have my incubator just sitting here but I need to get rid of all this snow. :) I want NN eggs!! :)

I generally don't wash eggs either, unless I have to. I'm of course a vegetarian, so I don't kill or eat my chickens -- but I do have people who won't buy or even eat my eggs because there's a rooster involved and/or "but they came out of a chicken butt!". They think store eggs are magical, I guess. :)

Congrats on all the successful hatches!

Haven't had time to read, just skimmed. I just got done painting my daughter's room. My neck and arms are killing me. Thought inwas going to regret staying in all day and painting but when I went out to lock up it was freezing!!! What is up with this weather!?!?!

Went to Tractor Supply early this morning. They had some Khaki Campbell ducklings, tetra tints, bantams that looked mostly like white silkies, shoot, I can't remember the rest, coronation sussex? And something else. I should have taken pics of the signs.

Hope everyone enjoyed their weekend. I'm glad the bantams are finally out. Here's a pic of my smooth sizzle splash pullet enjoying the snow this morning:

What a great looking bird! Love her head feathers!

Okay final count is 20 bouncing baby balls of fluff! Loving the baby sounds. Got the incubator all cleaned up and ready to go for the next batch. Candled the silkie eggs. 3 show active embrios. Little broody momma is sitting on 3. Somebody turned the heat off outside!!!!

Hey guys, have any of you bought eggs from the hatchery in Fayette? The one on Ridge Rd.? If so, how was your experience with them?

Had this discussion last week. Avoid Fayette aka A&J Hatchery. Any certain breeds you looking for? Someone here can hook you up.

I have no idea, it's just something I remember reading. It's just another one of those things that aren't right I guess. Just like cabbage, yet folks have been giving it to them and they're fine.

Ok catching up here so I'm back like 200+ posts. so be ready for a lot of quotes. I haven't heard anything about not giving citrus to chicks. Someone in our ny thread said they ship them older than 1week with an orange for the juice and it makes sense. Oranges hold they're juice within them even when cut open they have multi layers of skin inside to help hold the juice there. As for cabbage I heard of the iceberg lettuce because it holds close to if no nutrition value for them. We have a feed or don't feed list on the website here and I haven't looked at it in awhile but it might help for those that are shipping or giving treats.

So ive had my chicks for just about a week now. I figured because of where i lived it was ok to have them, but i guess not. I went online last night to the towns website and there are ordinances in place stating i need at least 5 acres of land to have them. I really dont want to get rid of them. Any ideas??

You can try to change your town ordinance. A lot of back yard chicken people are trying to change they're towns/cities zoning laws on chickens. If you try to do it start with trying to get roosters in and then give them up as a clause in the ordinance. It will make you look like you are willing to work. Point out that fresh eggs are healthier than store eggs, chickens eat bugs and small pests if they can catch them. I think there is a spot on here about helping people change zoning laws.
