NY chicken lover!!!!

Probably not. We live about 20 minute away, but love to go there. If I had known that you all were going to be there I would have made the trip out. If you ever go again you should let me know!

Shoot, it would have been fun to meet up! I don't think we'll be heading that way again until the picnic - it's about a three and half hour drive for us ;)

Metella and I took a trip today to a swan pond and we got to see some beautiful mute swans. I got some good pictures. Here is the female:

Here is the male guarding the nest while the female swims. They have two eggs currently:

I also got some new babies today, two pairs:

They are purebred Ayam Cemanis.
Did you order the Ayams from Greenfire?

Nope! Got them from a guy who has had them for 20 years, since before the ban on importing them. $10,000 for two pairs of chickens is a little much for me :p Plus, where Greenfire has hens that lay only 60 eggs a year, the breeder I got them from has been selecting for egg production and these guys should be awesome little layers.

That's awesome! I wasn't aware that they were in this country prior to the ban (though I wasn't really clear how Greenfire got them anyways). This guy is local to upstate NY?

I had shown the breed to my husband awhile back and he said he wouldn't have them here, lol! They are a pretty bird though.

There are a couple flocks. Trust me, finding one was NOT easy. I fell in love with the breed and had to have them. Tonie Marie had a flock, but she doesn't any longer. Greenfire wants $5000 a pair and hatching eggs go for over $1000 a dozen on eBay, so they're not easy to get your hands on. So glad I found the man who sold me mine. He is local to upstate NY. Don't want to say too much though because he recently had a problem with theft.

Yeah, you'll have to! Maybe Metella, Baking, and I will stop to see the swans again on our way up. They sure are beautiful, and maybe they'll have cygnets then!

That's too bad that he's had theft issues. But its good to know that there is a local source, lol. Will you eventually be selling chicks and hatching eggs? (Hubby still says no, lol!)

Yep! Probably pairs and extra roosters after I start hatching for my own flock. Not sure if I'll do eggs the first year but if they lay as well as I was told they're going to I may throw a dozen on eBay to recoup my costs.
