NY chicken lover!!!!

That's great advice Rancher. I actually found a lump when I was 20 and they did a biopsy. Luckily it was nothing but you can never be too careful.

The EE who goes broody under the deck is at it again. She's been there for at least a week now and when I checked this morning it looked like she had kicked out 2 eggs from under her and they were off to the side. I am assuming she did this because they weren't developing? I think I'm going to stick a rake under there when I get home and try to get them out and take a look. I don't really like this whole not being able to candle thing...it's driving me nuts not knowing what's actually going on under there. I can just see her come wandering out with 10 chicks following her...

Hi again NY chicken folks! Stopping back in to say we went and got our 6 babies from Nature Berry Farm in Macedon, and they are doing fantastic. this is really fun (1st chickens we have had) and easier than I thought. Nature Berry is very cool, and Jim and Sandy are very nice and helpful. We had a fun day. Took one hour each way, and the chicks were fine with the included heat packs. I wish we could go get more!

We chose these gals...
Buff Orphington
Silver Lace Wyandotte
Buff Wyandotte
Golden Laced Wyandotte
Black Australope
Partridge Wyandotte.

I am not sure of their exact age, but they went on sale on the 11th I believe, so maybe a week or so?

Metella and I took a trip today to a swan pond and we got to see some beautiful mute swans. I got some good pictures. Here is the female:

They are purebred Ayam Cemanis.

I'd love some green eggs to go with my blue ones. Must of my girls lay brown but some are so light they look pink

Eta:'have you ever tried coloring the brown ones? One of these days I am going to try it. I've downloaded directions on how,to use different veggies for coloring. Spinach, beets, etc.
I have and they look great! I have also painted them with a pearly acrylic paint, more like a wash...came out beutiful! The colored eggs, deepen the dye color.
