NY chicken lover!!!!

Spent some good time outside today. We had a hawk flying overhead. My DD saw it and pointed it out. I walked around and did a head count. We all started to yell at it, but it stayed flying high overhead. I no sooner said "Where are the crows?" and all of the sudden in flies 3 crows and they kept going after the hawk until it flied away. A few hours later it came back and so did the crows. There were 6 crows going after it. The kids were cheering the crows on.

Oh and my rooster almost got his head chopped off today. The little bugger attacked me! OH Did I go after him. I made sure that he knew that was not the right thing to do. I'm not sure that it didn't helped much cause he tried it again when I went out to lock them in the run. Looks like he is going to be spending sometime being held tomorrow. DH said that the first time that he goes after the kids he is gone. He doesn't care how great he is if he goes after the kids he is gone. I have told the kids what to do and let them chase him all the time. Hope that he doesn't get worse. I'm sure it is just cause he is only 1 and it is spring. I'm going to have to do something with his spurs, They are getting pretty sharp and some of the girls are starting to show it.

Oh, and I am now the proud owner of an accidental pure cochin black sex link. I thought the egg was mille fleur but apparently not! It's a pullet and being that her father is mille fleur I'm curious to see how she will feather out.

I swear Fay was posing for the camera !!! She is a lovely swan.

And I got to hold the new gosling .... love at first squeeze.

Country Boy - the cochins from your line - I finally saw them in person and they are just ... perfect.

Bleu gave me the stink eye - must have wondered if seeing me there meant he was going to moved again. ha ha - not until your job is done !

Body is sore from all that driving - I think I am certainly getting old - but the music and drive was fun and such a great day for it.

It is! We met the person who donated them and got to chat with him for a while.
The kids and I love to go there! We park and visit the swan pond then go eat our lunch on a bench at the lower pond. We always bring our own food to feed all the ducks. We all love it. Did you see all the HUGE fish that are there in the swan pond!

We did! That is so funny, I wonder if we passed your house on our way? The whole way there whenever we saw a place with chickens we would say wouldn't it be funny if that was someone from the thread?

Metella and I took a trip today to a swan pond and we got to see some beautiful mute swans. I got some good pictures. Here is the female:

Here is the male guarding the nest while the female swims. They have two eggs currently:

I also got some new babies today, two pairs:

They are purebred Ayam Cemanis.
Ayam Cemanis' I'm not familiar with them. What do they look like as adults?

Probably not. We live about 20 minute away, but love to go there. If I had known that you all were going to be there I would have made the trip out. If you ever go again you should let me know!

GRRRRR....someone (and I don't remember who) said that Muscovy ducks don't swim all the time and my pond would not be as attractive to that breed as other breeds. Weeellll....the ducks are out on the pond and won't come in. Period. It's dark. They are still out there. I got the drake into the coop leading him with the light of a flashlight. The hen wouldn't do the same. Then the drake went back out seaching for her. So they are BOTH out there. If something eats them I am DONE with ducks. I am sooo done with late night searching for animals/birds. They can ALL DIE and when I am done crying about losing them I will hatch some more chickens and EAT THEM. Done. Done done DONE.

Some brown egg layers get pinker eggs as they lay longer
silver spitzhaubens , sumatras , Leghorns lay white eggs you would only need one .
I wish I dared.. my men would kill me ...they love the quiet ..
How noisy is the blue & black one ? How come you havent eaten those extra Roos ? Must be chaos there ...

It IS chaos. And over bred, naked backed hens. I just haven't had a second on a nice day to butcher. Oh, and people keep saying they want one or more of them and then backing out or not showing up to get them.
