Where did you get the heater from

We insulated our coop that we built and I wish now that we hadn't. No heat, just make sure that it isn't drafty.

Get ducks. They will appriciate the insulation....mine shivered all winter in the chicken coop. Of course they weren't smart enough to go UNDER the table where I had a whole pile of shavings for them to burrow in to. The slept ON TOP of the table. Silly ducks.

Hey all, my grandfather passed away this morning so I may be absent for a few days. Just wanted to check in so that no one was worried if I didn't post for a while.

Pyxis,

I am sorry to hear of the loss of your grandfather. My sympathies to you and your family. Take good care and I hope that some happy memories of times spent with your grandfather help you cope with his passing.

Overhill - Your new pup is adorable. Lab - Pit cross? Best of luck with your cute canine "kid!" Our recent (January) Pit cross adoptee is a wild woman. She keeps me on the edge of my seat and is not going to be one of those push-button easy dogs to train like I've had before. Rodeo in a box, is what she is. Hope your pup is a good pupil when learning the rules of the house and doggie life in general!

Lynzi - I've missed out on over 2 weeks of BYC news, but you've got a lot going on, apparently. Firstly, sorry about your special drake getting killed in the road. That's terrible to find a pet that way (been there with a kitty), and I don't understand people who don't have the decency to stop and let the owner know. Also, best of luck hashing out where you'll be settling in with the move. I do hope it all falls into place and that you're not stressing too much.

Good news! Shortly after my last post saying that I had pips, one of the eggs I didnt see pips on hatched out! I have a new beautiful blue silkie! I am hoping that by tomorrow morining I will have lots of new babies. I congratulated Little Man on becoming a daddy but he just gave me the stink eye and went to bed. Keep your fingers crossed that the rest hatch!

Congrat's on the new blue silkie chick and hopefully on some other new arrivals!

Here's a chicken poop question........but not the usual kind about appearance and health!

I am wondering: does anyone else's dog(s) eat chicken poop? I like to let my hens free range at least a little while every other day or so. They love it. But they poop, of course. It's pretty nasty to see my younger dog go wild for the poop. Even if I reprimand her, she still eats it (or tries to). She is a very affectionate dog, always trying to lick us, and that's a bit of a turn off!!!!!!!

Between that and the close-call with a red-tail hawk last week, I am reconsidering the free ranging jaunts.

Mine does! They'll try and sneak into the coop and eat poop.

They also eat cat poop, and with the feral cats around here, they are constantly foraging.

They will also eat horse poop...anytime our mennonite neighbor brings his horse and buggy by, and it leaves a "gift" in the driveway...our dogs can be found eating it.

Vile, filthy animals...lol!!!
