Composting the shavings and poop is the major reason to use shavings. (The other being they are easy to carry in those handy little bags. LOL)

I am posting for a friend who would like chicks over the age of 2 months. Or maybe some fertilized eggs I could hatch out for him.

He is looking for something within 30-45 minutes of the Buffalo area.

Thanks
Jenn

I'm hatching easter eggers on the 21st. I could sell hatching eggs. I charge them just like I do when I sell my eggs $2.00 a dozen. The only problem is my rooster is being lazy and not chasing all the girls. Out of 55 eggs I only had 35 fertile. I'm located about 45-hour south of buffalo.

Morning all. Weather is making me stiff as a board this morning and I dont have time for that! Switched the brats and monsters over to the broiler feed. 21 percent protein in it. They have been burning through the chick feed like crazy so I went for the broiler. At the rate they are growing, I think they need the higher protein. Keeping track to see how much they eat on this stuff. Being heritage breed, they may require the higher protein. I am thinking of giving some to my layers as well. Mix it with their layer pellets to give them a boost even though they are out freeranging everyday for a couple of hours. I think the girls need a little extra as some have been feather picking.
Grabbed the reds out of the coop yesterday and put them downstairs for their trip tomorrow. Grooming silkies today after I get done with errands. Have to clean up the carry kennels for the trip and throw the pens in the trunk. Busy day today!

Rancher--how is dw? I hope she is healing well and her pain is managable. Give her my best.

Stony--I know you read from time to time. Just wanted to say hi.

Desiree--New Paltz isnt that far from me and I lived there for quite a while. Hope you enjoyed yourself there.

Hoping for nice weather tomorrow. Everyone have a good day!

So..........it's raining again!!

We have about 2 inches of standing water in the back of the barn. Glad I build the brooder up off the floor. The older girls are giving me lip because it's raining! Threw down some dry straw in their area, gave 'em some mealworms and told them to stay dry and go lay some eggs!
Don't know if we are going to be able to get out of our road - tried to get out this morning and part of the road is flooded and the other side is subsiding.....not good. Oh well, could be worse.
It's so wet, even the Beagles don't want to go out for a walk!

Hope everyone is safe and dry,

Getting excited for the picnic tomorrow. I have a bunch of things to get ready. Not so much for me, but need to make sure that DH is all set to stay home with the kids. Get stuff set up for lunch and get stuff for dinner ready so as soon as I get home I can make dinner. He is great with the kids, but not so great with the domesticated stuff.

Got the carriers washed out this morning. So excited because I am going to be coming home with 2 silkies. My flock will be finally complete for additions this year. Now have to figure out my rooster situation and if any are going to be going and who is going with what group.

The chickens are going to be mad for a week or so, they are going to have to stay in the run for a little while. I hate the way that they look at me when they don't get their free time. We have a family reunion coming up here at the house and we needed to fix the yard. DH plowed up some of the yard and there are a few large bare spots that we needed to reseed. So they chickens need to stay in their run till the seeds take hold and start to grow. Luckily for them the fence comes down in their run where I seeded a section of it on Sunday. They have their own grass patch. Not sure how long it will last, but I know that they are going to love it while it does.

She is sleeping a lot but seems okay. We see the Doc on Monday to get a more accurate idea of how good or bad things are. She will need radiation and chemo. Please keep praying for a miracle.

Gigantic! Lol. She laid 12 of them a few months ago(puppies that is) they were at least a pound and a half each! Haha

I have my first broody duck!

We had already taken out the eggs this morning so I have her the oldest eggs that I had set aside for hatching (May 9th and 10th). I am shocked at the nest she made. I didn't know ducks made such great nests. This dog house was a big mess of hat and shavings and she managed to take all the hay, move it to the front corner, make a little "pot" type hole in the middle, and leave all the shavings behind.

Hooray, Lynzi! I hope she sits on those eggs and you get a successful hatch!

My DH is taking me to new paltz to dinner at my fav rest. then the chance theater to see one of my fav bands for my birthday

Say HI to everyone at the picnic for me. This time of year is just too crazy for me to get away, and this one is extra-insane. Everyone have a great time! Take lots of pictures and share, please??

Rancher, I will definitely continue prayers. Meanwhile, know that there is much success in treating breast cancer in today's medical field. My mother is a survivor, bless her 86-year old heart! She was diagnosed when she was 70. My very best friend was diagnosed last year with an aggressive (breast) cancer that had spread into 3 of her nodes. They did a double mastectomy and she recovered amazingly well from that and the reconstructive surgery she opted for. She is a dynamo...and her last labwork showed excellent numbers. I am not trying to downplay the horror that is this diagnosis. It strikes fear into us all. I am just hoping that you and your wife keep positive and optimistic...and self-educate yourselves on the options and treatments. God Bless You Both and I will keep you in my daily prayers.
