NY chicken lover!!!!

Morning all!

Rancher it was wonderful to read your post! I was worried about you! So glad you are OK! How is your wife doing?

Butch my EE rooster (my Avatar) has gone to live with a farmer in the next town. I miss his crowing. Otis (his son) and Olive (OE) are 4 mos and moved to the big coop last night. So far they are not getting picked on too bad. My BRs seem to be the meanies. I am curious how all of you introduce new birds to your flock

. Otis is currently trying to crow. It sounds like a gurgly quack.

. I still have 3 cockerals 2 blue orpingtons, and, 1 EE. They are 9 weeks old. If any one is intersted. Otherwise I will take them to the local poultry swap July 20.

We are working on the new coop and run to get ready for the Lavenders. So excited to be getting them.

The peeps in the brooder are a week old today and are doing great. It is amazing how quick they grow!

I am thinking about getting back into canning again. Don't have a pressure cooker just a pot for Quarts. I will need to get some new jars etc.

I hope everyone has a great weekend! TTFN.

Morning All,
Woke up to 2 more chicks that hatched overnight. So I have 2 splash from earlier this week, a blue and another two splash from last night. I have one more egg in the incu that needs to go into lockdown Monday while we're away. Do you think it would be ok to put in lockdown tomorrow? All my eggs are hatching early so I figure it can't hurt. We'll be coming home Wednesday but I can have my friend come in on Monday/Tuesday and move the chick in with the others if it hatches.

I'm so excited over this hatch. If the last one hatches that will be a 100% hatch rate for me! First time ever! And what's even more exciting is they are my own first generation sizzles!!!

Here they are:

Update on the chick with the hurt leg. It is very positive! She has improved so much, she is almost back to normal after not using it at all! Every day she uses the leg more, and keeps it in a more normal position. This morning she looked pretty much like the other two.

But, both the black chicks have sustained pecks to the area around their preen glands. Don't know who is doing this, but both have had to be treated with Blucote, and Penguin is missing a few tail feathers too. I have this mom and chicks separated from the other two moms and their two chicks and the rest of the flock, but the fencing seems to be a challenge, and there are breaches of security by all. Thinking to make a couple of places for chicks to hide, maybe like the holy laundry basket Cass mentioned long ago...someplace chicks can go, but not adults...oh, maybe the halves of the cat carrier, that would be easier.

DH and are talking about raising other animals for meat again now too. I got permission to build a permenant pen for turkey's. And if I could find a feeder pig for under $50 I'd pick it up. I'm also sort of watching for a pair of goat or sheep.

Well you might consider rabbits. My barber had an uncle that was looking for rabbit. Not an easy thing these days. Too there are some endangered breeds which would be a double motive to raise rabbits.

While I would like them, it's just me and I just can't do it all alone.

Plans for the day anyone? You know , work in garden, do yard work, clean coops, (country max will have shavings on sale. $4.90, next week end) I wish they had Nobles, they're the best.
There is a vender at the Regional Market that has flowering perennials for $3. Small is better when planting perennials. They take better with less stress to the plant. I'm planting them around to attract honey bees. Just planted a Joe Pye Weed, in the corner of my veggie garden.

The Lavender Festival is going on and an antique show in Skaneatles. DW is not doing good right now so it's a not go for us. Her leg hurt all night and she was moaning and whimpering all night. Too she can't be around a lot of people with her immune system being compromised.

So, with Time Warner we only get one box, so that means we don't get all the channels on both TV's ? We're not familiar with how this works. Of course we get better reception but not as many channels.

Saw a Del rooster dancing with Frenchy and believe it or not she's laid four eggs. I'd like to hatch them but am not willing to set up the incubator.
Broody hens all need to be done. They've been sitting too long as it is.

I didn't mention it but I lost an EE hen in the large coop that I think might have been heat related. I was surprised to have found her just dead with no warning. I think with free ranging they eat bits and pieces that may not be safe. On the farm there is always this or that laying around. I once saw an xray of a hen who swallowed a 1" screw. This place being filled with hard fill there's no telling what they might scratch up and swallow.

I'd expected it to be a Marans hen with a large crop, or so I thought. I noticed last night that it might be a tumor and she's very skinny. This will be the first Marans I've lost. Not sure her age, but there are four hens that would be three about now. I'll check here again tonight and have a thorough look see.

Buckwheat is still alive. I've given her lots of grit to see if it might move things. IF there is a problem in that manner.

My plans are mow the lawn before it rains. Working some more on organizing the extra bedrooms and putting stuff away - only been in the house 5 years now and still changing and rearranging those extra rooms. And hubby is working on installing the garage door opener that I Bought him for Xmas 2 years ago. But now it is going on my side of the garage. :D

We just set up the two bedrooms upstairs for when the grandkids come. Put a TV in the one bedroom for my son and dil. Bought new mattresses and everything.

I do have grass to mow too and stuff to burn. Branches all around this place. If you need starter wood stop on by. I'm piling it up and we've two fire rings.

DW has been sewing dresses for the girls with her new machine. I'll post some pics when she gets some stuff done. Her leg hurts at time and others it's just fine. She really needs her own sewing room.

When we bought a new opener, I just paid to have it installed. Much less trouble on me and faster too. I did have a friend install a "box" to plug it in. Only thing that peeves me is the lights burn out to fast. We NEED a new door, but no money for that right now.

I think we have 3 boy ducks ...their voices are soft & husky .should you be able to tell at 2 months ?
Are they mature now ?
So giving them baby food is okay ? as they wont be laying ...

Glad to hear you are okay ...
With one box ...depending on how it is hooked up .
You will either get only some channels ( does it have a separate line coming in ? )
or a copy of what is on the 1st TV that is hooked up to the converter ( or is it sharing the line ?)
