NY chicken lover!!!!

That is one thing that seriously irks me... when people move into a neighborhood and then complain to make the neighbors conform to their idea of what things should be like... This happened in Nantucket... there was a farm with chickens and roosters and then people bought adjacent land and built a home and then complained about the rooster crowing... so the 100 year old farm (maybe older) had to get rid of the roosters. Like, really???? I would say, if you visited the land before sale... you knew... so tough chicken sh...
My land has been a tourist spot for a few hundred years... from native americans on... we had to put up posted signs because the world has become so litigious.
i had something simular happen to me ..i had an amish made shed out by the road in the side yard ..a guy moved in acrossed the street and we became friends.. then the friendship went south and he complained about my shed and i was forced to move it ..they wanted to fine me for every day i left it there after i was summoned ..the shed had been in that same spot for like 7 yrs before this guy even moved in ..i moved the shed and now its my chicken coop ..it faces his home now and levon my roo lets him no every morning at 4 AM that hes a jerk ..lol..i was going to raise pigs but my wife wouldnt let me ..lol..

My eggs have little cheeps coming from them! Can't wait!

So the other day I noticed that the nest had been torn all out and there was a hole under the area they would have hollowed out? I could see parts of the paper nesting stuff, kind of what you see wasps building under your soffits.

Any ideas what would have done that? What would have been impervious to the stings? We did have a few nights where it was chilly.

Skunks ....eat hornets , wasps , etc ..

Been busy trying to finish up my fall scrubbing before it gets cold. God the coop all scrubbed down the other day. Had to drill some holes in the floor to drain the water, then used the shop-vac to get the rest of it cleaned out. Feels good having it done. Still need to get one of my small coops painted before winter. Hopefully sometime in the next few weeks it will dry out and warm up enough to get it done. Had wanted to do it tomorrow, but DH said i have to do something else instead. He calls it the "Mommy do list"..oh well...

Met Lapeerian today to pick up our newest addition. Hopefully she'll mix in with the flock without to much drama.

I don't know what it is about Frizzles..but I just love them. I find they are like potato chips, you can't just have one.

Poor MJ got booted off of her eggs by my silkie. Guess Chleo has decided that she wants to go broody again. The question is do I just split the eggs between the 2 or do I find some more eggs for her to hatch? Not sure what I'm going to do. I gave her some to make sure that she has something to sit on for now.

How about one more...I got a good picture of my Smooth Frizzle today sitting on the top of their little coop. I can't tell the difference between the 2 smooth sizzles. They look identical. I am thinking that they are both girls...What do you think? They are about 10 weeks and look the same.

Love the new bird! I think your smooth looks like a pullet. Usually if they have any signs of comb or wattle by this point they have a red/mulberry tint to them. I don't see that, the tiny wattles I do see look black. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you.

Both of them have the same looking combs and waddles. All black with no signs of any color. My curly frizzle is 3 weeks younger then these 2 and it's combs and waddles are twice as big as these girls. So I'm thinking that the curly one is a cockeral and these smooth ones are little girls...

Now I'm going to need a few more silkies to add in with them!!

Which is why there should be licenses for that!

Evening all. Got a little more rain today then some sun. Let the cheeps out to play. That hawk has been hanging around a lot. I think it has staked out our yard as part of its territory. I will have to figure out a way of making it unpleasant around here for it. Its small enough that it cant really go for my large fowl but I worry about my silkies. Guess momma will have to sit out with them. They all had a good time today despite the threat. I got my shiny new wash machine today! Delivered right to my door and installed. Works well!

Working early tomorrow so chicken daddy has opening duty since it will still be dark when I leave. Have a good evening and day all!

Hello everyone. Hope all is well. Have been offline for a bit, crazy busy.
A while back I lived in CT & worked in NW corner where it's a bit more rural than most of the state. I remember listening to a coworker complain that there was too much wildlife near his house & he was worried about his children being outside. According to him the wildlife should stay off his property. Lol. Talk about being there first.

Well maybe he should hang up signs telling them to do so.
