That clipping in the middle is so funny. My sister in law would never eat with us until I would tell her where the meat came from that we would be eating. She wouldn't eat beef or chicken that we had processed she would say that she only ate meat from Wegmans.

Luv, you have a gorgeous Smooth! She is sooo pretty! What rooster do you have her with?

Beak A Poo, the silkie is still sitting on eggs that are likely unfertile. I was hoping that there was something in one of the eggs but I'm not sure. Chicken Nugget keeps rolling them out so that she can sit on some eggs too. Guess she's trying to help Beak out. Every morning Fredo comes running and crows until I get him some kind of treat, bread, or something. Beak and Nugget are so gentle. They like to be petted and coo when I pet them. I never knew chickens would be so nice. Fredo had a jumpy stage but he appears to be well trained now. Just show him the fishing net and he goes into the roost area until I'm done cleaning up, changing water, and getting the feeding container filled. When I'm done I call him and he comes walking down the ramp to check out the new cleaned up chicken condo.

Thanks. She is just a baby about 10 weeks. I have a curly sizzle baby in with the 2 girls. The three of them are still in the baby pen. I haven't let them out with the rest of the flock yet. Maybe next week. Their parents are my black frizzle roo and my white silkie.

Here is my little boy. I'm pretty sure that he is a boy. He is 3 weeks younger then the girls and his comb and waddle are twice as big.

Just a word of advice...If Beak is sitting on eggs still that aren't doing anything you are going to want to pull them away from her sooner then later. Candle them to see if you see anything moving. I wold think that you could tell my now. With the coop being in the back hall, I would hate to be there if one of the eggs break. It is going to STINK!!!

and so will your house and it doesn't go away quick.

She will get over it soon. You'll need to keep taking her off the nest, but she will break soon. It seems like she has been sitting on them for a while now. It isn't good for them to be broody to long so not sure if you would want to give her some more to try. If it was me I would toss in the towel with this try and wait for her or Nugget to be broody again...And I'm sure that it will happen. My silkie is broody again. She is the one that hatched out my curly frizzle roo about 7 weeks ago.

Oh, what a nice boy! He looks so much like Chicken Nugget. Everyone said that chicken nugget was a boy too, but he's laying eggs now! LOL. You never know. Your "boy" may lay an egg someday!

Thank you for the advice!

Beak started out with 6 eggs. I've been candling them and took out an empty one, and another one broke in the kitchen while I was candling but it didn't have veining. When I cracked it into a cup it had a circle of blood on top of the yolk, blood ring? I could see a dark spot in 1 egg, not sure if it was moving but the others looked empty. It's been 33 days so I think it's too late. :( There are 4 eggs under them. Nugget's been up there with Beak now for a day, trying to help her out. They leave poor Fredo all alone on the 1st level

. We need to get him a smooth hen with less feathers

Chicken eggs hatch at about 21 days so I'm pretty sure that they aren't going to hatch...Your best bet is to take them out and go out at night and throw them at a house of a person that you don't like...

Been busy trying to finish up my fall scrubbing before it gets cold. God the coop all scrubbed down the other day. Had to drill some holes in the floor to drain the water, then used the shop-vac to get the rest of it cleaned out. Feels good having it done. Still need to get one of my small coops painted before winter. Hopefully sometime in the next few weeks it will dry out and warm up enough to get it done. Had wanted to do it tomorrow, but DH said i have to do something else instead. He calls it the "Mommy do list"..oh well...

Met Lapeerian today to pick up our newest addition. Hopefully she'll mix in with the flock without to much drama.

I don't know what it is about Frizzles..but I just love them. I find they are like potato chips, you can't just have one.

Poor MJ got booted off of her eggs by my silkie. Guess Chleo has decided that she wants to go broody again. The question is do I just split the eggs between the 2 or do I find some more eggs for her to hatch? Not sure what I'm going to do. I gave her some to make sure that she has something to sit on for now.

How about one more...I got a good picture of my Smooth Frizzle today sitting on the top of their little coop. I can't tell the difference between the 2 smooth sizzles. They look identical. I am thinking that they are both girls...What do you think? They are about 10 weeks and look the same.
Your top girl looks just like my Buckwheat

Well........it's blowing up a storm down here, too windy to work down in the woods. If the chickens spread their wings, they might just end up in Rochester!

Weatherman promises rain..we'll see. Hopefully not, got too much to do. Just finished baking squash and an apple cobbler, good cold weather food. Will throw some burgers on the grill a bit later, if it's still on the deck!

Went to lock up last night and was worried something got into my run and trying to get my birds...

Apparently Ella is going thru a molt, can't really tell on her yet other than when she walks around she drops feathers like a flower girl dropping petals down the aisle at a wedding! Took those pics this morning but man it sure did scare me yesterday when I got there.

Got the same thing happening with most of my flock now. Only one bird is actively / regularly laying and the others are dropping feathers quickly. UGH................ Hope they can beat the really cold weather when it settles in to stay.

Here, too -- blowing to beat the band with whitecaps on the lake. Spooked the horses a bit this morning, though they settled down. The hens ran right into the underbrush on the lee side of the coop. Who says they're dumb?!

PS: funny u mentioned "cold weather food", I took advantage of a bit of free time today by cooking both a big pot roast and a chicken pot pie. Now my weekend's freed up from kitchen drudgery!

I believe Fishers' are pretty much all over NY state. I have seen them a couple of miles up the road. Fortunately, there aren't too many of them and they tend to stay away from human habitation. They are superb hunters tho' - almost the ultimate predator!

Have never caught them on our game cam here yet, although we have coyotes, red and gray foxes, coons, opossums, skunks and plenty of other critters. I don't think our woods are old enough growth in my immediate area, though across the (Otisco) Lake on the west side, there are some significant forests and I know they even have feral pigs over there. I think fishers have a denser population north/northeast of us.
