His Choice ! LOL :lau

If he had a nice looking wench watching he might sprout muscles like Gaston or Paul Bunyan and toss that tree out of the way.
Seriously, were IS rancher? You didn't get yourself under that tree did you? I've cut down many big trees and they don't always do what you think they are going to. Sometimes they do crazy things that you would find impossible. I know one full time logger who left his wife (girl I've known since kindergarten)and young kids without a husband or father, and he had yrs of experience logging.

Ok so i'm on again for what have become my rare visits.... I miss hanging with you folksies....

So I have an odd problem for December ..... I have too many eggs!!!! I'm getting approx 2 doz eggs a day. My primary source of egg sales (a local farm produce store) closes from December to May). I'm hesitant to hang the eggs for sale sign out because the store wants up to 10 doz eggs a week during season.... and the sign would have to come down again .....

I did start up the incubator though. I'm collecting all orpington, white rock, sumatra, bantam wyandotte, and freedom ranger/orpington cross eggs that get laid right now. I have decided I need to investigate stocking 3 - 4 incubators & hatchers to be able to track which chicks come from which parents from birth. I've even looked at adding dividers into the hatching incubator to help track that because I can easily label the eggs collected. I have something like 12 heat lamps at the moment so setting up several small brooders isn't a problem until I can get them toe punched.

I also find myself with some spare cockerels (imagine that....)

I have 1 white rock cockerel and 3 splash orpington cockerels. All are less than 1 year old. I can get $5 each for them from the local Amish - but I thought I'd see if anyone here was interested first. There may be a few more orpington cockerels - I need to get them divided out to see what I'm keeping. If the chickens continue to cooperate - I'll have eggs and chicks both available this year for the first time.

My daughter also has 3 sumatra cockerels she'd like to sell for $5 each. They are beautiful birds - but the combs would be DQ'd at shows so we're not keeping them at all.
Do you have pictures of the orp boys? Are the english? I honestly dont need another roo right now, but I have a splash pullet who is absolutely gorgeous! I only got her to add to my layer flock, she came along with some jubilees, but she is the biggest sweeetest thing! they are almost 8 months old, and still not laying however! the picture is of her size., she is bigger than all of my roosters.

I will get pics by the weekend. But I agree they are beautiful. I would keep them but I have solid colors in blue black and white and I need to keep them first

$25 per egg seems reasonable and they say make a offer! Wish I was ready, wont be until spring. I'm looking at getting some cemani redleghorn cross eggs at $20 each, but they are close enough to pick up. Don't have to worry about the shipping. I might decide on the svart hona eggs he has though at $40 each. My wife will probably kill me but I just have to have some. And I don't want to make $$ off them just want my own flock for black meat chicken soup!

I know Pyxis will have some pure and mix of these ready by the next chickenstock ... so perhaps you want to check with her before buying others?

At any rate - I know the people posting this bred - some are honest and some are not - so always do checking before buying .... I am not interested in the bred - but they are pretty !!! :)

You are looking at this tree resting on a fence post. If not for that post it would be laying on the chicken run. An inch the other way and it would be. I can't figure out how to cut it down without dropping it on the run.

i would try and ty it off to a tree that would make it swing away from the coop after its cut ..and like beer can said get some kid to cut it ..if you have away to get close to were you would want the first cut ..something like a pick up or even a ladder up against the fence ..you want to take it down in chunks..but get your rope out to the top end as far as possible ..say with in about 3 feet..

that is a puzzle ..can you move the coop ?
can you cut a little off the tip at a time ?

I can't move the coop but have thought to add some inches to the post by screwing a 2x4 to the side making more support under the tree. The tree is over 50 feet long and to high to reach on a ladder. I have thought of that.

I can't move the coop. I have looked to see if there is a way to put up a support so when the tree comes down it doesn't fall directly on the coop.

Rancher - do you have a tractor/4x4/pick-up truck?? My thought would be to throw a rope over the tree and pull it sideways away from the coop. Some relatively gentle force should move it if it's not attached at the base.....just a thought,
I've given this some thought too. I don't have a pick up, but thought if I threw a rope over it near the end and then had someone cut it I could pull it so it cleared the coop.
