Tons of snow here. At this point we are at about 26 inches...Our snow piles are much larger...Been shoveling out the chicken run some. Last year I did almost the whole thing, not this year. I have it shoveled in the middle so they can get to the little houses where I put their food bowls. Little feed stations to keep the feed out of the snow. They are slow to come out, but have to if they want to eat and drink.
They are not happy!
Duck coop is next to the main run. Had to shovel around that too.
You can see Lotties head poking above the snow looking for the chickens.
He/she is having a hard time understanding that he/she is a duck and not a chicken...but I have hopes. The last time they all got free range time when I went to lock up, he/she was in the duck coop instead of the chicken coop so there is hope. I just wish that he/she would start quacking better. There are days when it sounds raspy like a drake, but then today they sounded more like a duck so who knows. Maybe in a few weeks he/she will decide to let his/her gender be known....I really home it is a she..
If I had to shovel I'd be in big trouble. I snow blow paths around the yard. That particular year a lost a black pullet to a Falcon. Black birds show up too good against the snow.
It probably looks the same right ?
I shovel paths for the chickens ...at least from the coop the the deck ..
Then the next day a new path ...somewhere else
My hubby sometimes snow blows some for them ...but mostly he does the driveway

I no longer snow blow path far from the coop around the yard. Hawks can pick them off to easily. I just snow blow so I can get to the coops. I have shelters across from coops without runs.

We drive by a house where I'd given the guy chickens for hay. His ducks and chickens were out in the yard. They don't seem to mind the snow. There were quite a few. I was surprised I didn't think he had that many.
I do know some folks go to the auctions and buy anything. I can't afford to feed birds that aren't laying. Though I do have a few.

Do you have scratch ? Throw some of that on the path ...or when you shovel go down to where the grass is ...( un cover it )so it is a green path..
Not a white path ..I think chickens are snow blind
