Good thing this year only has 1 day left ;)

thank you ..

so glad shes ok..shes a awesome looking bird..what breed is she ..i love the head dress..i can see why her name is elvis..i had a run in with a family of coons last summer ..they can be sneaky buggers..i started leting my dogs out around the coop at night ..we've had a big grey fox hanging around ..the neighbors seen it 3 times ..i think the neighbors are thinking my chickens are bringing the wildlife around ..i've had 3 people tell me they've seen this fox..but i havent lost a bird yet .[knocking on wood ]..i no once something finds its way into the run , they will get in the coop pretty easy ..i used to have a barrel sunk in a creek when i was a kid that i used to put fish in at night after fishing to keep them alive till morning an could clean them ..i had a big old cement block i used to hold the cover on and the coons always seem to get into them ..i think they thought i was running a seafood store for them ..anyhow coons are pretty strong  and i no they could rip the coop ramp door right open ..

you have a safe and happy new yr as well..

Coons are too **** smart, yes. I don't have a dog right now. Perhaps that would help. My electric net fence protected the chickens all summer. It doesn't work as well on cloudy days when there's a few inches of snow on the ground tho. Think I have to build something more permanent. Have been eying the hoop houses on this thread. Looks like a great idea.

Elvis an appenzeller spitzhauben. They're not supposed to have such fluffy crests, but I love hers.

Happy new year!

Nothing wrong with qualifying the statement:). Not sure I could have resisted blue magpie ducks either. They're gorgeous, no matter what time of year it is.
That is my problem I've been in love with the breed after Lynzi gave me my first 2. When I lost the one I promised myself I'd get more. It hasn't been easy to find them but with lots of help from Lynzi and Ke5hde, I'm up to 10! and love it. Not so sure that DH is all that excited. I especially am not so sure that he's going to be to happy when I tell him about my plans to dig a big pond this summer. Not sure that the Town is going to let me put it where I want, but we'll see...He really wasn't to excited when I told him that I would be hatching out a bunch this spring...The sooner the better.

He asked me what a "bunch" was. I told him it was more then 2 but less then 50.

i want to thank everyone for their preys ..it turns out the woman who hit them had her husband taken from her 2 yrs ago in the same manner ..he was also hit by a car and killed..its a crazy world and you can never no what cards you will be dealt...so everyone please be careful in the new yr and while your out for the new yr ..keep in mind it doesnt have to be us that cause the accidents, but it still may be us that have to deal with the effects of others.. have a safe, happy new yr ..

Morning all. Was late getting out to release the beasts and of course the complaint department was very noisy about it. Dh heard it more than I did as he was the one to go let them out. They managed to get some scratch out of him (because they basically own him) so it quieted down pretty quick.

Luv---nice sidestep with the definition of 'bunch'. I will have to use that!

Wry--prayers to you and yours for comfort.

Off to michaels for the great yarn sale. I have to get some for my niece and nephews afghans. Im trying to get the pattern for the cute little hats I have seen on chickens in pictures. Found a pattern to make some crocheted stuffed chickens as well. Going to make some for my little chicken man in the making next door so he can have his own 'flock'. The boy is 2 1/2 but he knows all of my chickens as well as I do and who were the mommies and who were the babies. Timmy has the makings of a fine chicken man some day!

Have a safe and happy new years eve. I will be flinging coffee and hoping to get home before all the partiers are out on the streets. See you all next year!

Is that his real name? I've been buying books for my gs. He's only one, but you can never be too soon. "Timmy Failure". By Stephan Pastis. He writes Pearls befroe Swine. The cartoon in the newspaper.

Anyhow Timmy is not my gs, reall name. But they say he looks like me, so I call him "little Timmy" and he does answer to it.

I'm buying the books for when he gets older. I'm a firm believer in getting kids to read asap.

Parents who read have kids who read. My kids had their library cards at 5. OMG!

I just realized I'm one of those. People who right stuff that no one really needs nor wants to know. The mentioned it on CBS the Morning yesterday. TMI's or something like that.

Well I'm sure your Timmy will do well learning from you.

VINS - the wildlife raptor rehab place is in deep need of any chickens to be donated .... if any of you are interested and close enough to Woodstock Vermont - let me know and I'll pass on the lady's email info.

I've never donated before but it's a nice option to have if you really can't find anything to do with extra roosters. For anyone wondering, they treat the birds very well before they feed them to the raptors and they don't feed them to them alive; they are humanely euthanized beforehand so it's not some terrible painful death for them.
