NY chicken lover!!!!

Evening all. I hope everyone had a good new years eve and day. Very busy at work today. Very cold too. Cheeps were not in a hurry to get out this morning. Number 2 daughter is coming over tomorrow to help me take down the christmas stuff. Of course I had to ply her with shopping in mommy mart. That means she will be raiding my pantry for canned chickens and my freezer for venison. Is it bad that I have to use bribery to get help? lol

My itch is growing to hatch. Planning in my head as to who and how many and when and so on. Perhaps its good that I live on a small acre otherwise I would have a thousand chickens and lots of coops to keep track of! I am looking forward to hatching out my first batch of heritage rir chicks. Im hoping I get some nice birds from Duke and his ladies. Legolas and the two blue girls I put in with him should throw some nice silkie chicks this year. Looking to get some light blues from them.

Jlaw--there is a person in pensylvania who has very nice black silkies if you cant find any close to you. PM me if ever you want her name.

Opening early tomorrow so ta for now.

Wishing everyone a healthy, comfortable, positive 2015. I for one am holidayed out! No more holidays for a while. Other than having to produce holiday meals, everything here is on an even keel. The chickens are pretty good, the chicks from the summer are maturing, I think I'm getting some pullet eggs, and the boys are experimenting in many ways. One experimented this afternoon with flying to land on my head. I hope he doesn't feel the need to repeat that experiment. They have not reached the stage of development that allows them to tidbit the hens, they are impulsive and grabby. But pretty healthy. Maybe they will grow up. Now that things will be more normal, I plan to start sprouting, the eggs show the benefit to that.

My Young roos sometimes do that ..when being chased by the older roo ..
I think it is the lesser of 2 evils ...I dont seem threatening to them when the older roo is chasing them .
More like a port in the storm ..I hope you had a hat on ?
This one did that to me the other day ....not my head more like my shoulder ..
Imagine my surprise when I had a 10 ? pound ? Roo on my back

I think DW is finally seeing things my way with a small artificial tree. It's decorated with mostly hand made ornaments. Others kid proof ornaments. She's seeing the wisdom of no needles on the carpet.

She gets tired these days so she not up for all the work of a real tree. Yes I help but neither am I.

Happy New Year everyone ! May the new year bring everyone Happy Healthy chickens

Well lets hope so.

My hopes for the new year is

Good health for all

A husband for my daughter

Lots and lots of money. Hey I just tell it like it is.

The person who said money can't buy happiness just doesn't know where to shop.

I'd be happy with enough money just to pay off my mortgage. That would surely make me happy. Yeah more would be great, but I'd be happy just enough to pay that off.

Hope that this new year bring you and your wife health!

Happy New Year everyone.
I recently moved back to the Binghamton area after many years away. I am a disabled veteran, and had to leave behind my 'mental health chickens' - half a dozen hens of several different breeds- with friends in TN. I doubt I will manage to get my birds back, since travel is kind of rough on me. So I wonder if anyone in this area has Buckeyes? My previous birds were Ee/Ameraucana crosses (moms were undocumented/non- show colors; dad was standard out of "show quality" stock... I just loved the blue eggs); also had a Dominique; Welsumer (who was insanely broody); an alleged Rock who was huge & birchen color. Had a Fr blue copper Marans awhile too, but didn't like her personality.

I'm in the city limits and am told my area is 4 hens/no roosters. Any tips while I get reestablished would be greatly appreciated since I was a city girl growing up and only got into chickens a couple years ago down south.
Thanks a lot, I look forward to getting to know you folks,
Trish "Catmom".
