NY chicken lover!!!!

I understand that :) with my back trouble and all around pain I am lucky I have my hus band, his brother (both over 6' fit guys) and my kids to help

I understand it too. I have been laying out my pens, planning buildings, and even feeding in ways to work around pain. My daughter heads out again in May, and I will have lost my extra help. I look at the birds as physical therapy. Unless I'm really sick, I drag myself out to them. I can't sling feed bags around like I used to though... That's what the husband is for!

Oooh! I'm jealous! I've wanted to get a hive or two going for the past few years!

So jealous bees have been out off till next year, had to replace my head gasket in my car :( we are going to build the hives this year though :) have fun

I found a person on a buy-sell-trade farm group that was downsizing. Complete hive setup, including a medium honey super not shown, for a little less than buying a new hive and nuc. Comes with all the frames of wax and any food stores they had left which is the advantage. The guy was nice enough to make sure they had pollen patties inside before we picked them up, since so many are starving. Also bought a third 'deadout' hive. He had several starve over winter due to the extreme cold, so we have extra frames to supplement with until stuff starts blooming. And the deadout also gives us a place to complete a hive split if needed.
