NY chicken lover!!!!

I'm looking for various breeds of fertile hatching eggs.

If you have bearded silkies, true ameraucanas, olive eggers, cemani or legbar fertile hatching eggs please PM me.

If you also have a suggestion of a great breed for me to get started with let me know as well!

The Black Sunflower seeds you buy for feed / scratch sprout too ...

I noticed them growing under our bird feeder before we moved here. I bought a bag of BOSS and planted them around our mailbox, they look similar to black eyed susan's. The ones I'm planting up our driveway along a barbwire fence are are giant grey stripe. I got a half pound from Page Seeds for $6. There must be over a thousand seeds in it.

How do you apply DE in your garden, around the individual plants or a perimeter around the garden??
I spread it around the base on dry evenings and dust plants. Be aware mice will eat your plants too. I had a mouse prob last year. I bought fake snakes and out then around. Be sure to move them occasionally.

Funny, move them around lol. I thought mice were getting my tomatoes yrs ago. Every morn I would check and every time they would turn red they would be half gone and it looked like teeth marks in them, sometimes just half a shell of the skin left. Got up one morn to go hunting just before the sun came up and caught them, covered in slugs!
Picking up some DE tomorrow. Worth a try I guess. Just noticed down by my pond only half of either my yellow squash or zucchini is up, slugs probably got them too. I'd replant some seed but I can't remember whatI put where. Guess we'll be light on one of them, usually end up with more than we need anyway lol.

Has anyone else had problems with seed they planted? I had to replant beans, cucumbers, and zucchini I got from TSC because it didn't come up. My dad and some of my coworkers have had the same problem.
I had a big problem with all the seed I planted in round 2. Round one is Root Crops, Greens, etc, frost hardy. Well Round 2 was very spotty. I plant with a precision planter which saves a lot of time, but had a negative side effect. The Blue Jays realized somehow that those nice lines in the soil had seeds. They were literally walking along eating all the big seeds (Corn,Beans, 2nd planting of peas). Now i rake after I plant.

We have used Sluggo w good results. It's pelleted iron phosphate. Label says it's safe for pets & wildlife, tho it kinda looks like chicken food, so I'd keep it away fr them. Sprinkle it around ur garden late in the day & the slugs go away. We didn't use it last year & the slugs eliminated all our bean plants. Though I'm sure the lack of weeding didn't help either :p. This years gone be better, here's hoping. We've already been out there weeding a couple times, & DH mulched it this weekend.

Well, my broody hatched three chicks! One of them from an egg she had kicked out of the nest....when I found it, it was cold. But the chick still hatched, so yay!!!

On another note...I have a hen that is sick. I noticed her vent feathers were droopy and wet and assumed she had a bout of diarreah. Well today, I noticed that her vent is prolapsed. At least, I think that's what it is.

Is it true that, once this happens, it'll probably happen again?

Well, Ideal Poultry is making me nervous. I have someone who would like me to add a couple chicks onto my order for them that's coming in the week of the 17th, so I tried to go to their website to see what colors they had available in that breed. Website is down. Okay, I needed to call them anyway to get insurance on my order so let's just call and ask. Nope. Tried calling from three different phones. On my cell phone I just got a weird error message. On my desk phone at work it just disconnected the call immediately with no ringing. And on the other phone I just got dial tone. So I'm not liking that. Next up will be trying to email them, I guess.

I wonder if they have been quarantined? They are situated in Tx right??
